When Ann and I went to Atlanta and visited the High Museum one of the most impressive exhibits on display was the Samurai: Armor from the Collection of Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller. This collection was massive and was only a small part of their collection which amazed me. It is one of the largest exhibits outside of Japan and consists of more than one hundred fifty helmets, swords, and other objects spanning almost nine centuries. It includes 20 sets of complete armor. It was in a world – impressive.

The different layers of the armor are impressive, don’t you think?

Of course the horses had their own special attire as well as the warriors.

The display will continue through September 17, 2023 so if you are in the Atlanta area I would recommend stopping at the High Museum to see it. It is really stunning to see the craftsmanship and read all of the information that accompanies the displays. You can read more information about this exhibit by clicking here.

Leave a commentWow! This looks amazing. I would love to see this display. The Terracotta Warriors came to Spain, perhaps this display will come here as well.
What a beautiful exhibit!
Fascinating, to enter a different world. The Samurai were strong for about 600 years. You took really good photos, Beth Anne! Thanks!
Wow. Amazing how much they carried on them during battle!
Wowza!! Incredible. Would be amazing to see. Colin and I saw a cool display of kimonos at the Metropolitan Museum of Art when we were in NYC in December.
Incredible – and intimidating !
This is an amazing exhibit. Thinking about all the armor makes me tried and hot! lol It is beautiful!
Fantastic work! Aren’t we glad we never were samurai who had to wear it.
I feel burdened by the need to catch up on the Internet on a Saturday after the power outage all week. It’s not even hot here.
