Subscription Boxes During Covid-19

6 Comments/ 541/ 0

Yes, another Covid-19 post which I am apologizing for ahead of time. It seems that has been a popular topic on my blog for some reason lately but today’s post will offer my readers a little something extra – a discount if they are interested. Read on, dear friends.

One of the things that has been really helpful for us during this Covid-19 pandemic is subscribing to some subscription meal box services. I have to admit that it has taken a little bit of stress off of me and that has been really helpful. Having Chris home and not traveling means more meal preparations and while I love to cook and he has always been the best at eating whatever I prepare it has definitely been a life changer to be cooking meals every single day.

In “normal” times we would eat out in a restaurant once or twice a week, visit the clubhouse for a lunch and Chris would be traveling more so I would not be cooking full on meals every day. But as we all know these are definitely not normal times.

Hello Fresh has been our weekly meal subscription service for the past 10 weeks or so. It has really been a great service for us and has allowed us to choose from some fun menus. We have gotten the 3 meal a week plan and that has worked out really well for us. The meals are varied and each meal package comes with everything you need to make that dinner with the exception of a few items like butter, oil, salt and pepper.

Different meal options are available each week, you can skip weeks, you can adjust how many meals you get and the plans are all very flexible. What I like is that meal planning is super simple – no extra shopping needed at all and my trips to the grocery store have been eliminated because everything is provided.

This has worked really well for us and even though I am not an affiliate of Hello Fresh I am happy to offer a discount code of $40 off to anyone who might be interested in trying it out. Meal prices vary but our plan is $8.99 a meal plus a shipping charge of $7.99 which makes it pretty reasonable. We also tried Purple Carrot for a couple of shipments for a vegetarian option but Chris decided he likes meat too much. (Smile) Plus we were getting too much food since I was not keeping on top of alternating shipments. We might go back to it one day but for now we decided to stop our subscription.

I just received my first box from Misfits Market this week of fruits and vegetables and I loved it. This will definitely be one that I keep getting a couple of times a month. Two sizes of boxes are available and shipping frequency can also be selected. The beauty of this box is that the fruits and vegetables are items that may not be perfect enough to be put on grocery store shelves. Instead of tossing them out and wasting them they are incorporated into this subscription program. My first small box was filled with “ugly” produce. All of the items I received will be used – they all were in good shape and produce that I would have bought at the market anyway.

The steel oats and bran were add ons available with this box. Items included kale, lemons, onions, spring onions, potatoes, zucchini, oranges, apples, mangos, two kinds of peppers and celery . It was a great box filled with some great produce.

If you are interested in this subscription box check it out at their website at Misfits Market. The smaller box that I received is $22. For a 25% discount on your first box use my referral code COOKWME-VK7RXX.

So there you have it. A couple of ways that I am working around the whole Covid-19 situation by taking the stress out of grocery shopping and meal planning. It really has been a huge help and I would love to hear ways that you are making changes during this challenging time as well.
