The AAUW Used Book Sale is Coming!

6 Comments/ 504/ 0

It’s the most wonderful time of the year here in Brevard, North Carolina. It is almost time for the AAUW Used Book Sale – a sale that is a favorite with bibliophiles.

Last year the sale had to be canceled due to the safety concerns of the pandemic. It was absolutely the right thing to do and even though many were disappointed it was just what needed to be done. Or not done.

But this year it is back and everyone is very excited. Of course all precautions are being taken and folks will be practicing safe practices as the sale proceeds. Hand sanitizer and masks will be available and AAUW members who are working the sale will be wearing masks as a precautionary measure. I am very proud to be part of an organization that takes the precautions to ensure the safety of everyone.

Not only do shoppers get to find some great books, it all goes for a great cause. Scholarships for local young women from Transylvania County are granted from the over $30,000 that is raised from the sales.

The sale relies on MANY hours of volunteer work prior to the sale as well as during the sale. Those books don’t get priced all by themselves, trust me. I help out in the History and Political category during the year and we price a lot of books over the months leading up to the sale.

If you are in the area, head to the Boshamer Gymnasium at Brevard College for the best sale of the year. Payment is by CASH or CHECK only. Please find the dates for the 2021 sale listed below.

Sunday July 25. 12 pm – 7 pm

Monday July 26. 10 am – 7 pm

Tuesday July 27. 10 am – 7 pm

Wednesday July 28. 10 am – 7 pm HALF PRICE DAY

Thursday July 29. 10 am – 3 pm. FILL A BOX FOR $5 DAY

So if you find yourself in the area and need a book or two or a box of books make sure to stop by. Books on every topic imaginable are available and displayed in the most organized manner that you will ever find. And you might just make a friend while you browse. See you there!

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
