The Payoff at the End

5 Comments/ 458/ 0

It’s always good to have goals, right? Last week my goal was to recover enough so that I could make it to an event on Saturday night in Tryon. I had gotten tickets months ago for a Sean of the South event and instead of going with my BFF Ann , this time I was taking Chris. After my exciting week, it was looking iffy but I was determined. I slept, rested, slept, rested and by Saturday I felt good enough to go and thank goodness Chris drove. I took some pain meds and off we went.

I had seen him earlier this year with Ann in South Carolina but Chris has wanted to see and hear what all the commotion is about so this time he was invited. I think he enjoyed it. We had great front row seats (the early bird and all that ) and it was a great evening with lots of jokes, singing, and playing of instruments including piano, guitar, fiddle, banjo and accordion.

.

If you are not familiar with Sean Dietrich (aka Sean of the South) he is a very talented musician and writer and his daily blog posts (see — blogs are still alive and well) get circulated on social media routinely. His down to earth Southern charm oozes out of every post and he seems to have struck a chord with my generation.

.

.

The small auditorium in Tryon was sold out and it was definitely an older crowd but one that applauded, sang along and appreciated the humor that he shared that night. At times it is self-deprecating but his manner of writing is often so heart warming and touching as he often writes stores about folks he has encountered along the way. He just has a knack with words.

He is also always happy to greet his audience after performances and give hugs and autographs so of course we got in line for that. He looked at me and said “I remember you!” which was the best medicine for a long week.

.

If you want to see if he is playing in your area just click here to go to his events section on his website. Amazingly enough, he is performing with Bobby Horton this week at my favorite Ohio spot, Lakeside, so some of my Ohio friends might actually get the chance to see him.

Life is good — goals are good and when those goals are met it makes life a little sweeter. Have a great weekend and see you back here with. a new Comments for a Cause next week.

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
