Top Food Picks from Kauai, Hawaii

12 Comments/ 90/ 0

I have not posted too much about our trip to Kauai, Hawaii yet other than our sweet airplane trip. However if you come back there will be several posts sharing some of our favorite things. Today I wanted to share some of the favorite meals and restaurants that we discovered during our stay. Food pictures always make me happy. Hopefully these food pictures will make you happy as well. Enjoy.

Out favorite breakfast spot was close to where we were staying at the Sheraton Kauai Resort. Holoholo Grill is located at 2641 Poipu Road, Koloa. It is part of a resort but open to the public and very easy to get to. Dining is outside and in a covered area and we actually had breakfast here three times so that shows how much we liked it.

One of the best things we had were the pancakes. Macadamia nut with bananas and blueberry with lemon curd. Need I say more?

They also had great steel cut oats, omelettes and smashed potatoes.
Are you hungry yet?

Best hot dog category definitely was Puka Dog in the Poipu Shopping Village at 2360 Kiahuna Plantation Dr., Koloa. Never mind that we only had one hot dog while we were in Kauai. It was recommended to us by a family friend and since we were so close we made it before we left the island. Just what is a Puka Dog? A little bit of heaven, let me tell you. According to the Puka Dog website it is:

A Puka Dog is an entirely Hawaiian-style hot dog. First, we toast a Puka (hole) in the center of our freshly-baked buns. Next, we add your choice of our garlic lemon secret sauce in mild, spicy, hot or lava along with a selection of one of six original tropical relishes: mango, pineapple, papaya, coconut, banana or starfruit. Finally, we top it off with a tasty local favorite: Aunty Lilikoi’s passion fruit mustard.

All I know is that it was TASTY! And yes, it deserves capital letters.

On the grill getting ready for hungry people.
Tending the dogs.
Perfection.

Our best dinner had to be at The Beach House. located at 5022 Lawai Road, Koloa. We had a great table with a view and thoroughly enjoyed our meal before the storm rolled in. Just take a look at these pictures.

Sometimes we just wanted a light dinner so we would get starters to share. The best starters we had during the trip had to be at Lava’s on Poipu Beach at the Sheraton Resort Kauai where we were staying.

I would be remiss if I did not share that our flights also included some pretty wonderful food. We were fortunate enough to fly Delta One and the service, especially on our return trip, was stellar. We were greeted with rum punch, warm mixed nuts, and of course some special macadamia nut treats in addition to our meals.

Are you hungry yet? I am headed to find something to eat but I bet it won’t compare to any of these items. Thanks for stopping by today . Don’t forget to leave me a comment. Every comment made on the blog this month means a 50 cent donation to our Comments for A Cause – Project: Music Heals Us.

Great food is always a good part of a holiday. It´s always great to try something you might not get at home. A bonus when you get good food on the plane as well!

Definitely. We always try to sample local cuisine when we travel if we have the opportunity and especially to try the authentic places to dine. We found quite a few small little places that were great and it was fun to see all the different offerings on the island.

Looks like you enjoyed some amazing food and beautiful views while doing so. That puka dog looks divine. I’m not a huge Hot Dog fan but once in a while I like to indulge. 🙂

We did have some great meals in Hawaii. I am not a huge hot dog fan either but this was beyond extraordinary. The sauce, the way they grilled it perfectly, the bun –yum.

That is the best part about visiting Hawaii— all the great seafood that I never cook! I take advantage of that!
