The Whistlestop Market – Produce, Wine, Books and More

19 Comments/ 98/ 1

The gems in our area are endless and The Whistlestop Market is just one on the long list.  While it is not one of the area’s “natural” beauties like the abundant waterfalls and forests it offers just about as much beauty.

Owners Val and Diane are constantly sourcing new and different options for the market.  I am always thrilled to find the freshest produce displayed both inside and outside the market.

When I visit I have to look at every single bin.  You just never know what is going to be new and different.   The market prides itself on offering local and organic fruits and vegetables and they are plentiful.

On one side of the outside of the market savvy shoppers can find “less than perfect” produce which is offered at a discount.  It still tastes good but may not be as pretty as what is offered in some of the bins up front or inside.

Another great area of the market is the wine and bulk food area located on the right hand side of the market.

Market shoppers can find so many great finds tucked in the nooks and crannies of this part of the market and sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming trying to choose the perfect spice or wine to compliment a meal.

Inside the main market the shelves are loaded with more produce, coolers are stocked with meats, cheeses, delicious meats, pot pies, seafood (which can be ordered weekly), amazing bakery items made locally and even my favorite cookies from Reason to Bake.  The offerings are always changing and being updated to reflect what the area is asking for.  I am constantly amazed at how much can fill the small space.

Of course you know I have a soft spot for this place because at the end where the wine and bulk food area is located stands my Little Free Library #51049.  Don’t you love how even plants grow and thrive here?  I have watched as this climbing vine (don’t even tell me it is a weed) has wrapped itself around my lovely little library and given it a bit more woodsy feel.

Don’t you just love a good market?  Do you have one that you visit on a regular basis?  If so what is your favorite thing to buy. This is a picture of my favorite purchase lately and I think you can almost taste it from the picture.

Check out The Whistlestop Market if you are ever in the Brevard / Cedar Mountain area.  I don’t think you will be disappointed.

They are located at 7825 Greenville Hwy, Brevard, NC 28712

I love going because every time I go to check on my library there is always a new product or item that I have to check out. The inside is so packed with amazing items and even though I didn’t include pictures of all of the inside market items it is an amazing array.

I love little markets and shops like this. I feel like the smaller stores take so much more pride in their wares and are friendlier. We stopped at a local store/stand just outside Blowing Rock and they had the best stuff. I honestly can’t wait to explore more of North Carolina. I fell in love…

Well, you just succeeded in making me hungry for all of that beautiful produce – yum!! – and enticing me to take a trip to one of our local farm markets. Love the photo of your little library too.

If I lived in the area I would shop there. I like the sign “Boo Boo Bin”. The flowering vine I believe are Morning Glories, a favorite flower of mine.

Yes! The Boo Boo Bin is a perfect idea, isn’t it? And yes–I think they are morning glories and I think some people don’t like them because they vine all over the place but I love them.

I would love this market with all the fresh produce. I shop the Faribault Farmers’ Market and a local grower for garden fresh veggies. Notice I didn’t write “fruit.” The only fresh fruits available from local sources at the markets are apples (not in season yet) and melons.
