Wine Cork Herb Markers – Another COVID -19 Project

15 Comments/ 99/ 1

Everyone is going crazy doing projects during the COVID – 19 pandemic. Things are pretty much shut down and a lot of people are finding projects to do around their homes. I must admit I started off strong with closet cleaning, outdoor furniture staining and other projects but then lost some motivation.

What I needed was a simple project that made me feel like I had done something without spending hours upon hours. A quick picture on a friend’s Facebook feed and I found the perfect project to do. The winning factor was that I had all the needed supplies and no trip out was required.

I love having fresh herbs to use in cooking and had recently gotten some great plants at our local Transylvania Farmers Market using their nifty difty online ordering with curbside no contact pickup. When I saw a cute way to use wine corks to make herb markers I knew it was meant to be.

Look how simple this was. Took me about 5 minutes to select the corks from my stash, write the names on with a Sharpie and stick the kabob skewer into the end of them.

I love it when a plan comes together so easily. My source of inspiration came from a picture posted on her Facebook feed by Mary Levad Lovstad. Mary is one of my Iowa blogger friends and a really lovely one at that. If you want to follow another great blog check Mary’s website at Farm Girl Weddings where she highlights her business. Have you done any crafty projects during this lockdown? I would love to hear all about them so leave me a comment and Comment for a Cause – WHO Covid-19 Solidarity Fund.

I love this! It’s adorable and also jealous of the fresh herbs you will have. I suppose I could try it myself 🙂

They turned out so cute! You could definitely grow some herbs but still probably a little early in MN. Do you think this will become my next Coaster post??? Lots of questions???? 🙂

You could definitely grow herbs, Jeni! I got these raised bed containers at Sam’s Club a couple years ago and they are perfect for on the deck. The critters don’t bother them and I can have fresh herbs as long as I want.

Very cute! We’re still about a month away from planting anything, but this idea could be used in the garden too, to label the rows of seeds.

It could definitely be used in the garden to label rows. My dad used to use the empty seed packets on popsicle sticks. 🙂

I love them and there are so many ways to use them. Mint in my tea, basil in my salads with mozzarella and tomato, dill and oregano on meat dishes and cilantro in my salsa! Making myself hungry!

That’s a great way to mark your herbs and vegetables. Love the reduce, reuse, recycle aspect.

I do as well! They turned out perfectly which is not always the case with DIY stuff and me!

That’s a really great idea! I’m enjoying seeing all of these “quarantine” projects folks are doing. I don’t have time to do any since from sun-up to sun-down I’m entertaining, playing, doing kindergarten readiness workbooks, and running after our five-year-old granddaughter! 🙂

You have quite the herb garden. I am envious. I just moved my oregano and rosemary, which I wintered, outdoors. And I seeded cilantro and basil. We’ll see if they grow.

Simple and inexpensive – gotta love that, but not many wine corks around my house, how about you drink more wine and just mail me the corks, as a humanitarian thing to do. 🙂
