A Little Slice of Heaven on Wilson Road – Shadowbrook Farm

8 Comments/ 123/ 1

I have had the most amazing fall. For some reason I have made some amazing connections with people recently and one of my favorite things to do is find local places and local people that are unique and fun. Shadowbrook Farm and owners Mary Ann Duvall and Bill Kilpatrick definitely fit into that category. I am so happy I found them.

Located at 895 Wilson Rd in Pisgah Forest, NC it is a place I have driven by probably hundreds of times during our 4 years of living in Connestee Falls. I never really noticed it but now that I have visited I wonder why on earth I didn’t see it. Owners Mary Ann and Bill have a dream that every animal should be able to live out its life happily and free. The sanctuary started with one horse and now boasts creatures of all kinds that are loved and nurtured and can live out their lives with people who love them.

I have only gotten to spend one morning brushing and petting but I am definitely going to be making this a regular stop during my week. I happily have dropped by to drop off veggies and fruits to the critters and it always makes me smile to know that I now have a place to take all of those scraps. Mary Ann welcomes anyone who wants to donate and who loves to interact with animals and volunteer by brushing and offering love.

So what kind of animals live at Shadowbrook Farm? All kinds. From guinea pigs, bunnies, chickens, ducks, sheep, donkeys, goats, horses and more this place has rescued more animals that you can imagine. My friend, Jane, and I were truly amazed at the variety and loved being able to meet all of these sweet animals.

Jane found lots of friends.
There was some competition for Jane’s attention. All friendly, of course!
I had my share of love as well.

The farm operates on donations and while they do not have a non – profit status this is a place that many folks are happy to donate even if there is no tax advantage because it is such a great place. Mary Ann and Bill have opened their hearts and they will help any animal that needs a place. Generous people donate frequently and there is a box available for donations which is so very helpful to them. Fundraisers by friends of the farm also help to pay for feed and other things that the animals need.

Just look at all of these cute little “piggies” chowing down on the apple peelings I dropped off one day. They loved them.

I am so grateful that there are people in this world like Mary Ann and Bill. People who go out of their way to share kindness and love not only to animals but to the humans that love them. I am so happy to have found them and hope that others will join in supporting them and their efforts as well.

This is wonderful! A 2 day old guinea pig!!! We had guinea pigs as pets when we were little. I’d definitely visit regularly if I lived down there.
