A Stroll on the Tundra

5 Comments/ 1975/ 0

Any of you familiar with the tundra???  And how cold it is???  The tundra of which I speak is the tundra at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio.  Chris and I both graduated from ONU a few years ago and since we are temporarily living only about 16 miles from good old ONU we decided to take a mental health Saturday and attend Homecoming!  It was just what we needed and such a great break in the action here at “Cleaning Out Central”.

The football game was a little bit disappointing ( we lost) and chilly but it was fun to go to the stadium that did not exist back when we went there and enjoy a game of mudball.  It has rained almost every day this past week and not just sprinkles—-downpours.  It was probably the muddiest game I have ever watched but still a fun time!   ONU had pulled out all the stops for a great Homecoming with an awesome theme—-Peace. Love, ONU.   Tie dyed orange shirts and tailgating, parade and lots of extra Homecoming events.  We saw lots of families who were enjoying rides and food and football.

Chris and I met at ONU, shared our first kiss outside the laundry room at Clark Hall (which we re-enacted–blush blush) and married in the chapel on campus.  You can imagine the memories that we shared when we walked around what we always called the tundra.  The funny thing is that they still call it that even though there are so many trees now that it is not anything like it was when we were there.   The hike from the dorms to the gymnasium back in our day was horrible in the winter—stories of contacts freezing to eyeballs were quite common.  Brrrr… I remember well walking against the wind and snow to make my Social Dance class in King Horn during winter quarter.  Who thought of taking that class then????

We bumped into several folks we knew and shared some catching up stories which was great.  College friends are some of those folks who knew you when and it is pretty neat to see what they are doing and where they are now.

We stayed for the Balloon Glow which ended up being an indoors event due to the winds.  I was disappointed but it was pretty neat to see a hot air balloon inside and walk inside it.  On the way home we saw the most beautiful sunset—the perfect ending to a pretty perfect day.  Enjoy the pictures!
