A Tree on the Deck

12 Comments/ 118/ 0

I was really excited to decorate for Christmas this year. I haven’t really decorated much the past few years as we have been elsewhere for Christmas. But not this year. This year I am going all out with the outside lights, the inside decorations and lights and all that makes me happy.

We wanted a tree but with Maksim I just didn’t want to be tending a tree all of the time. He is a rascal. So we decided to have an outside deck tree again like we have done before. Add to the happiness that we found trees with root balls that we can plant in our yard later at Rooster Head Farms and I was thrilled.

So I put the tree up and have it sparsely decorated with a few lights and a few silver and red ornaments and it needed something more. So I decided to make some goodies for the birds and coat some of our millions of pinecones with peanut butter and bird seed. Win win win.

The birds love it.

What I didn’t really count on, and I don’t know why, were the squirrels. How could they resist ? A buffet just for them.

Poor Maksim about went through the glass earlier today trying to get at them. He races from door to door, window to window, following them on their adventures but now he can just see them right outside his bed.

Tell me all about your tree — do you put one up every year? Is it a live one or artificial? I want to read all about it so please leave me a comment and Comment for a Cause for Transylvania Christian Ministry Sharing House.

Your tree is wonderful! My favorite tree is a small tree. I have an ornament for each of my 2 boys, from every Christmas. (and a few for the pets)I have the best time setting up this tree and arranging each photo ornament- first tooth, first driver’s license, etc. It’s the only thing I’m taking to the nursing home with me, ha!

So fun. I was thinking about getting a small tree for outside as well. I may still do that.
Our Audrey goes berserk when she sees a squirrel on our walks, she’s super strong for a fairly small dog.
I used to make those pine cones with my campers and hang the, all over campus and watch the birds enjoy. So fun.

What a great idea! My daughter puts a tree up outside as well. We put ours up yesterday. In Canada we always had a real tree but in Spain we have an artificial one that looks quite real. Hubby loves to put up outdoor lights. I think you can see our house from the international space station this year!
I think Dot would break the window to get at those squirrels.

We go every year as a family to pick out a live tree. One year we actually cut one ourselves. There is a tree farm near us. However this year I didn’t realize that we needed to make an appointment. Well we missed out at the farm. But went to Lowes and still got a live tree. We decorate with mini lights, glass ornaments of various colors, tinsel and candy canes. Nothing fancy. The stockings are hung on the mantel and the nativity is nearby.

I miss your little one attached to the tree because I can see it from here.
I added more trees to my collection. My white articulated was set up because I traveled last year at Christmas so It works one more year.

I am about to crochet more snowflakes to add in. Maybe in red!

I do like outside trees. During the trip to Slovenia last year, they have trees decorated I. Stores, outside, and everywhere in Bariius forms. Some are out of brush and others designed from native elements, it is quite amazing how nature takes on the festivities!

My kind of Charlie Brown tree. We didn’t get a tree last year. But this year, probably.

Very cute! I did a tree on the deck once, many many years ago. But the ground was so frozen after Christmas we couldn’t plant it, and then by spring it was pretty dead. Still, the birds DID love it!

That is the beauty of living where we live— no frozen ground!

What a fun idea!! Well, except for the squirrels being hoggish. 😉 We always have a Christmas tree in the living room and alternate each year – when all our kids are coming home, we often opt for a real pine. If not, the artificial one goes up. This year it’s the fake one.

What a great looking outdoor tree!! I like the fact it feeds the animal too. We had a tree up till last year. Chuck is 78 and I am 68 and we decided our big Christmas tree days are over. We just do not the get up and so anymore. I decorate inside just not a big tree anymore. I figure I will enjoy everyone else’s. Thanks for sharing. I love all the decorations.

Love this! I wonder if any farms or nurseries around here offer “outdoor” Christmas trees.
