Antique Love on Teapot Tuesday

17 Comments/ 2275/ 0

If you were following me back in 2011 when I first started doing Teapot Tuesday you will remember this one.  It actually was one of my earlier acquisitions.  I found this sweet set at an estate sale in Freeport, Illinois back in 1995 and absolutely fell in love with it.teapot7It doesn’t matter to me that there are some chips and nicks out of this set and that the whole handle of the sugar container is even missing. What I love is that it has character.  Lots of character.teapot6Each piece has a number on the bottom and from what I can tell from this set made in Austria it was made quite awhile ago and was loved a great deal.teapot4 teapot3When I got the set home and unpacked it I discovered this handwritten note tucked inside the teapot with love. teapot I know that someone thought the new owner should know how old this teapot was and treat it with the love that it deserved.  I only paid $25 for the set and that seemed like a lot to me at that time but it was worth it and I love having it in my collection.teapot2

I used to have a tea set very similar to this one. I believe I still have it at my grandparents house. It is a very beautiful tea pot.

I love that there was a note inside! The writing looks like the writing of an elderly women and I can’t help but wonder what the story is behind her giving up the set.

I agree. It was an estate sale and I am pretty sure it was at a farm so I think they were selling the contents and the farm and downsizing. Probably moving into town or something but yes—it made me smile when I found it because someone really cared about it and wanted the new owner to know the history.

Who wouldn’t love this antique find, The note inside is precious and I could just see my grandmother or her sisters doing just that.

I always like the well loved look better. I can imagine all the hands that held the object to make it that way, and it just makes whatever it is even more special.
