Boom Boom Boom

This week has been the Pyrotechnics Guild Convention at the Fairgrounds here in Mason City. Seeing as we live about a mile and half from the fairgrounds (if that) we have had the pleasure all week of lots of loud noises and fireworks. All week I found myself straightening pictures and realigning things in the house—due to the house shaking that was going all during the week. Of couse the Mason City paper reported on all the events and the letters on line complaining about the entire convention reached epic proportions. Evidentally they had extended the noise ordinance this week until 1:30am to accomodate this event. I do know that I was sound asleep many nights and found myself jarred away at 12:30 and 1:00 am due to the loud blasts coming from the convention. Now it is only a week out of my life but I get cranky when I don’t get my sleep!!! So even tho I like fireworks and am glad these folks came to town to spend their money I am not sorry that the noise level will recede today!

Last night was touted as the grand finale so when Chris got home from Toronto we sat out on the deck and waited to see the show. A lot was ground level so we couldn’t see but when they started popping up higher it was pretty spectacular. Of course my battery on my camera died before the final best ones but I did get to enjoy seeing (and hearing) them for the last time last night. Chris packed it in before me and went to bed but it was me and all the neighbors hanging out in the back yards watching…..so enjoy the shots…

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...

All the Light We Cannot See

This is quite a book! I had it recommended to me by several people and while I thought it might be a little dark and depressing it made me have a better understanding of what life in this time period was like. The strength of the huma...

An Abundance of Katherines

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
