Chapters

This was a week for musing.

A week to think about life.

A week to think about the past and look forward to the future.

As Chris and I had breakfast on the balcony of our VRBO beach rental I found myself feeling a little bit chilly so I donned a sweatshirt to ward off the one day ( hopefully) of mist and chill. He glanced over at my shirt and commented on it.

It was a shirt I got during one of his business trips several years ago when he worked his last job before he started his own consulting company. It quickly became one of my favorites because it is oversized, comfortable and has a nautical theme. And to be honest – it brings back some really nice memories of a fun weekend with the wives of some of the staff.

It got me to thinking about how our life is a book filled with chapters.

One after another we turn the pages and discover new adventures, new friends, new experiences. That sweatshirt was from an old chapter in my life but it still has meaning to me. Those people still have meaning to me. It is all part of my story.

I mused to Chris that this sweatshirt was from a another chapter in our lives and that it was nice to think about my life being a book. I told him I was glad. he was part of my book and that I really love this chapter that I am in right now. It is a comfortable chapter that I find myself currently in.

As the sun shines down today on the sand and sea, as I reach for yet another book to read, I sigh a little bit and anxiously turn the next page of life.

What lies ahead?

Some pages may be a little dog eared, have a few things highlighted or underlined, may need to be reread a couple of times but I am so thankful that my book continues to grow in length. How blessed am I to be in this chapter at this time?

I hope your book is filled with many chapters today – and I am very glad that you are a part of my personal book. Thanks for stopping by.

I never quite looked at things this way but this post definitely made me look at my own life and realize the different chapters. I’m glad you are part of my book as well. 💕

Great analogy! Next week I am starting a new chapter in my life – retirement! I’m not sure what that will bring. At the end of the month, Bruce will also be retiring. Praying that our next chapters will be healthy and happy.

I agree, a great analogy for life. A number of years ago, I named a year of writing my blog posts as my “book of opportunity.” Each day a new page. 🙂

I used that theme in my blog posts beginning on January 1, 2011 and continued it through Dec. 31, 2011. Each month was a new chapter, each day a new page.

I love this blog. I have often used this analogy when I have run into a parent of one of our children’s elementary friends. I remember meeting the mom of one of our son’s t-ball friends. He never seemed to be able to remember where he was supposed to be on the field but was just a happy kid. I asked about her son. He’s a pharmacist now, she commented and getting married soon. I said— Wow, I missed a few chapters of his life. And we laughed, remembering my husband trying to teach her son how to swing a baseball bat.
You have described these “chapters” much better than I could. Thanks, Beth Ann.
