Comments for a Cause – Alzheimer’s Association

15 Comments/ 502/ 0

Welcome to December 2021. The last month of a very long year but one that has shown each of us how strong we can be and how resilient we are. With each day I feel like I am getting stronger and better at dealing with what comes my way so maybe that is the good thing about getting a little bit older. With age comes wisdom. Or something like that.

Regardless of my wisdom or lack of it – it is the first of the month and if you have followed It’s Just Life for the past 10 years or so you know that each month I choose a Comments for a Cause recipient and highlight it at the beginning of the month.

This past month I chose to highlight another cause that my Mother loved and contributed to. Habitat for Humanity has always had a great impact on those who have the opportunity to volunteer and the families that are able to receive housing through their efforts. My mom was one of their biggest cheerleaders. To honor her memory I decided to designate November 2021 as the month Chris and I donate to our local chapter at Transylvania Habitat for Humanity. Their mission to eliminate poverty housing in our county is commendable and Chris and I are grateful to each of you for coming to the blog and leaving comments during the month. We will be making a donation of $100 this month.

My final memorial tribute through Comments for a Cause on It’s Just Life for my mom will be to the Alzheimer’s Association. This was another cause that was near to her heart and she made charitable donations to their efforts over the years. Their vision:

A world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia®

Formed in 1980, the Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Their efforts are truly inspirational and each person that comes in contact with their work is truly blessed in a myriad of ways.

Their efforts are defined by their mission which is listed as :

accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.

Who can argue with that? Please join me this month by keeping my Mother’s memory alive. With each comment made on any blog post during the month of December Chris and I will make a 50 cent donation to Alzheimers Association . While we don’t donate a lot of money it is true that each donation, no matter how small, makes a difference. Thank you to each and every one who reads and leaves a comment during the month. You are the real givers.

Happy December! Puzzling to me that we haven’t been able to make much progress in curing or alleviating the dementias. Thanks Beth Ann for highlighting Alzheimer’s.

Our daughter’s father-in-law has Alzheimer’s and can no longer live in his home. He is in his mid 60’s. Very sad situation.

This is an excellent charity and perfect for ending the year. What a year it has been for many of us. Highs and lows. But we made it through with the support of each other. Thanks for all you do my friend.

Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia are tricky little stinkers. Your mom was a generous person in her life. It is good of you to honor her memory. Hopefully breakthroughs in medical care will be forth coming to better treat minds that are affected.

Hey BethAnn! Two great causes! My mom passed from Alzheimers 13 years ago. It was indeed the long goodbye. But we do grow a lot going through the process of that goodbye and learn that we can be stronger than we ever thought. I just watched “Awakening from Alzheimers” on FB. So much we can do to help prevent it and some promising treatments on the horizon! Have a wonderful, blessed Christmas!
