Comments for a Cause: #IowaStrong

20 Comments/ 111/ 1

Another month has blurred by and here we are already moving into the month of September. It’s been quite a year, hasn’t it? But just because it has been a challenging year does not mean that we give up hope for things turning around and getting better. No way.

Our Comments for a Cause for the past month was Transylvania Christian Ministry Sharing House. These folks have been giving back to our county for years and this past summer they have really shown up for all of the folks in the area who are desperately needing help during these trying times.

As my regular followers know it is my practice to feature a worthwhile charity each month as the Comments for a Cause recipient. For each comment made on any post during the month Chris and I pledge to donate 50 cents to that cause. This month our worthy recipient will receive a donation of $120 because of your generous comments here on It’s Just Life. It is just a little way that we can each give back in a small way. I love that so many of you stop by and leave those comments faithfully. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

The past month has also had many challenges with storms and wildfires. It is sometimes difficult to determine where to begin and what charity would be most deserving during times like this.

I looked at a lot of different charities for September’s Comment for a Cause but had to go with something that helped the folks in Iowa who suffered a great deal of devastation from the “derecho storm” that occurred on August 10th. Several areas were hit very hard including Cedar Rapids and the footage of the destruction is sobering. From farms to homes the incredible inland hurricane wreaked havoc. It will take a long time to rebuild but Iowans are hardy people and also people who join together in times of trial. I have no doubt they will come out of this stronger. After all their motto is #IowaStrong. Many of you know that we lived in Iowa for several years so I feel a sense of kindred spirit with these folks.

There are many groups that are offering help and assistance in many ways but I chose United Way of Johnson and Washington Counties as the recipient this time. I feel that they are an established and well grounded organization who can get the aid where it needs to go.

Please join me this month in supporting our friends in Iowa by stopping by the blog and leaving a comment now and then. Each comment will be a 50 cent donation to United Way of Johnson and Washington Counties for Derecho Storm Assistance. As always -thank you in advance for your support. I agree. United Way has been around a long time and while there were other grassroots groups i felt like this was where I should direct my contributions right now. Thanks for your support!

Thanks Beth for inviting us to join with you each month to share and help. I just looked up United Way to see how long it’s been around- the first one started in Denver in 1887! So, yes, they’ve been through many hard times. Happy September to you!

My brother lives in Iowa. He works in the agricultural industry. Even though he didn’t have damage the area was hit hard.

Tonya, thanks for stopping by. Yes, not all of Iowa was hit by this storm but it has been a tough year for a lot of the farmers all over Iowa. I am glad he did not have damage –such a horrible storm . Thanks again for stopping by!

Good cause. We have friends in Iowa who had a lot of damage to their yard and trees but thankfully none to their house.
