It’s a big day for Hilary, my blogger / writer friend who wrote the memoir, Dangled Carat. This is the official new cover for her book and I get to help spread the news. Please join me in congratulating Hilary on her new cover and wish her luck on continued success with her book. Below find a little interview I did with Hilary to let you all know a bit more about her. Following my Q and A are a few short blurbs about the book and links to purchase it in either Ebook or Paperback form. Let’s all show her some love today!
1.”Dangled Carat” is a memoir about your relationship with your husband, Marc. When you were “living” this story did you think that you would write a book about it? How does Marc feel about having “his” story shared with the masses?
All through our relationship, I felt like I was living in the middle of a chick-flick. I always said to myself that I could / should write a book about our relationship. But I honestly didn’t think I would actually do it!
Marc is a great sport! He gets a real kick about the fact that I wrote this book and shared our story. After my mom he is my biggest promoter. Sharing so much about our relationship hasn’t totally been easy for him. He has gotten a lot of teasing from family and friends, but he doesn’t really mind. I always said he was a true character and now it is official!
2. We know that you are an animal lover from your blog posts and pictures of your beloved cat Alex and current feline companion Lucy. Did you have pets when you were a child ?
When I was a little girl I had very bad allergies. I wasn’t allergic to cats or dogs but my allergist warned my mom not to get a pet because if I lived with an animal that may change… I was devastated, I wanted was a dog. Then when I was about eleven my parents decided that I was old enough to understand and cope if we got a pet and it didn’t work out. We adopted a poodle and after a couple of days my MOM was severely allergic and we had to return him. Years later, when I was eighteen after spending a week with my mom’s friend in Florida and her dog, without incident, my mom and I got the sweetest dog. She was perfect and worth the wait!
3. What is your writing process? A little bit at a time or sit down and knock out a whole bunch in one sitting?
A whole bunch in one sitting. I don’t have much time to write except for the weekends. So I when the weekends roll around I take advantage. When I wrote Dangled Carat I would sit at my dinning room table every Saturday and Sunday from 8 AM to 5 PM.
4. When you were little what did you want to be when you grew up?
My first choice was a talk show host. I used to compile lists of subjects for my future show. My second choice was a soap opera actress.
5. What is a typical day in the life of Hilary????
Totally unglamorous!
I usually wake up by 5:30, feed the cat, make coffee, make a smoothie, possibly breakfast / lunch, catch up on emails / blogging. Then I exercise for about a half hour before getting ready for work. I sit in traffic for an hour (or more) as I drive sixteen miles to my office where I am a CFO of a beverage alcohol importation / distribution company. For the next nine to ten hours I liken my life to a game of dodgeball – I try to keep as many balls in the air before they smack me in the face. I then get back in my car for another hour or so and head home. About half the week we have dinner plans with family and friends. The other half we have a quiet night at home until I conk out by 10!
6. If you could give one piece of advice to an inspiring writer what would it be??
My advice would be just write… Don’t worry about what happens next. There are so many options available for authors now. You will find a way to get your story out there. Also try to develop a thick skin. You will face rejection and you will encounter people who don’t like your work. Don’t take it personally and don’t loose faith in yourself. After all everyone can’t like everything…

Leave a comment49 pairs of shoes…she better not look in my closet. She would be highly disappointed. I’m not a shopper.
I had to update it —she bought 2 more pairs last weekend! 🙂
I responded to the wrong comment earlier. I meant to say on this blog not mine, if I remember correctly you have a Toms addiction. Maybe I should hire her as my personal shopper. I could use some new clothes and shoes.
I bet she would rock that job! I suspect she could do wonders for me, too!
Hire me away! I would love to go shoe shopping for someone else 🙂 I am running out of storage!
That would be my problem: storage. Our flat is tiny and the better half has to hang work clothes. Maybe start small: one good outfit.
Congrats to Hilary! Great interview, Beth Ann.
I enjoyed the interview and I am sure her book will be read by many as it sounds very interesting.
Congratulations to Hilary on the book and the cover, and to you, for that super interview. You could do that for a living. Insightful and well formed questions that give the readers the impression that you truly are interested in your subject. Kudos to you both.
Poems – thank you so much! Beth Ann is a great interviewer and an even better friend!
We are all better off for knowing her Hilary. Even though I have never met her in person, we’ve been communicating for about 4-5 years now and she is special. Good luck again with your book.
Aw, Jake, that is so sweet!!! She is a gem, that is for sure and one of the first bloggers I have “met” although not in real life. Hopefully that will happen one day—sooner than later.
Only the truth ma’am, only the truth.
Congrats to her. 🙂
Thanks for sharing about her book and I too enjoyed the interview. She sure has tons of shoes! I only have 5 pair and don’t even wear all of them!
Thanks, Karen. She is a good friend and has been a real supporter and encourager . I doubt Hilary would believe that someone only had 5 pairs of shoes. 🙂
Beth Ann / Karen… I do think 5 pairs is hard to believe but I doubt karen is lying… Don’t you “need” at least 7 – one for every day of the week? Yes, I know I have problems!
🙂 I know Karen would not lie about that ! She is a pretty straightforward kind of gal and I think she probably goes barefoot on the weekends. Just kidding!
Beth Ann – thank you so much for welcoming me to your blog. I loved “chatting” with you! I appreciate all your help and support but most of all I am truly thankful to be able to call you my friend!
I am so thankful for you, too! We have a great friendship that spans the miles and I am blessed!!!
Congratulations Hilary for keeping your back side in the chair and pushing through to completion. Looks like a wonderful book!
It is a fun read—-sometimes I wanted to punch Marc because he was so slow to do what “I” thought was the right thing. 🙂
Beth Ann, thanks for introducing us to Hilary — and Hilary, congrats on this momentous accomplishment. Cover looks superb, by the way!!
Thanks, Debbie. She is fabulous in all ways!!
