Seagrove, NC – A Pottery Lover’s Dream

17 Comments/ 263/ 0

If you are a pottery lover the town of Seagrove, North Carolina is a destination. Seagrove boasts well over 100 potters in the area and the quaint town is the epicenter of all things pottery. Many of the shops are open year round for visitors and they welcome having folks pop in to watch them work.

On our recent trip to the beach we made a stop on the way to Seagrove to spend just a couple of hours. We started out at the NC Pottery Center. For a small donation of $2.50 per person we almost had the place to ourselves on the day we visited. The volunteer who was manning the place was very helpful, gave us the lay of the land and provided us with a detailed map of the area with all of the potters and shops indicated. This spot is definitely the place to stop to get a great overview of what Seagrove is all about.

One of the first things we looked at were the exhibits by the Artists in Residence at the time. There were detailed informational plaques and it was so interesting to read about the artists and their visions.

Other shelves are loaded with examples of pottery by local potters and information about where they are located and what hours they are open are available at the desk.

Come back tomorrow for some more glimpses of our day in Seagrove and all of the wonderful things we were able to see. As you can see from these pictures there is a lot going on.

Amazing. I’ve heard of Seagrove since I love pottery and go to several places each time we are in the mountains. I’m starting a bit of a collection and have some favorites for sure. 🙂

You would LOVE it. We didn’t go to many shops but the ones we did go to were amazing and the potters were so happy to share their stories.

We haven’t been to Seagrove since 1979, right after we moved here. Might be time for another visit!
