Teacup or Mug?

7 Comments/ 104/ 0

If you are like me you have a variety of vessels to drink your beverages from.  My mug rack and mug cupboard is overflowing.

One hard and fast rule of mine is to drink tea out of designated cups. I do not drink my tea at home out of a mug.  Mugs are for coffee in my house.  I drink tea out of teacups or glass cups.  I just think it tastes better.

When my mom moved out of her house to an apartment at Copeland Oaks she made sure that I had anything that I wanted that she was not going to move.  She happened to have a pretty teacup and saucer in her corner cabinet so you know I asked if I could have those, right?

I love how delicate it is, don’t you?

I am not sure where it came from but I suspect it might have come from my Grandma Brown. That was something that she would have had in her house and I don’t remember my mom ever using it or buying it herself.  I love the delicate pattern on the cup and saucer, don’t you?It appears to be made in China if I can believe the markings on the bottom of the cup.

“I was cursing and swearing at you because of that address, I hated you already because of the lies I had told you. Because I only like playing with words, only dreaming, but, do you know, what I really want is that you should all go to hell. That is what I want. I want peace; yes, I’d sell the whole world for a farthing, straight off, so long as I was left in peace. Is the world to go to pot, or am I to go without my tea? I say that the world may go to pot for me so long as I always get my tea.”
― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Notes from Underground, White Nights, The Dream of a Ridiculous Man, and Selections from The House of the Dead

I love the tea cup from your mom’s collection. I have one from my mom’s as well. It is green glass and so sweet. She told me she had saved up stamps and ordered a set from a catalogue when she was a young girl. Over the years all that was left was this one cup and saucer. I also gave other teacups of mom’s to some of my friends who loved mom. They tell me they think of her when they drink tea from them. These little things make me happy.

I have a few dedicated tea cups myself. But some of my mugs/cups do double-duty as coffee/tea mugs.
I love the cup. It reminds me of sets my grandma used to have.

It’s a beautiful tea cup, I’m sure you enjoy drinking your tea from it and thinking about your mom and grandmother. I drink tea out of mugs mostly because I don’t have any teacups. And because I don’t drink coffee. But tea out of a teacup would be pretty good too!

That is a lovely tea cup and saucer. I have a collection of tea cups all different but all with dainty violets on them. And I have my mom’s set of china which includes tea cups as well as some tea cups folks have gifted to me over the years. But I seldom use them. I don’t drink coffee (ewww) so I drink my tea in mugs. The bigger the better! 😉

I have a dainty tea cup somewhere that came from Randy’s grandma. It reminds me of this special one from your mom.

I used to collect teacups, I have a few left from what I had. I know you treasure this one.

Very dainty. We used to have (not sure who has or has lost it now) one odd cup that was similar, not necessarily identical. Seldom used, because of small children in the house.
