Things Found in Books

11 Comments/ 213/ 0

The AAUW Used Book Sale is done for 2022 but we are continuing to collect books for sale online and for our next book sale. It has turned into an all year event now and it is pretty great to realized that we are helping fund scholarships for young girls and women in our county. One of the fun things that is a by product of pricing books for sale is finding treasures that are left inside them. There are quite a variety of “bookmarks” that are used and I started taking pictures of some of the ones that are more interesting. Today I wanted to share those with you.

What do YOU use as a bookmark? I must admit I have several favorites ones –currently my favorite one is a magnetic taco. Tell me all about yours and Comment for a Cause for the White Squirrel Institute.

Each bookmark you show is a delight! I especially liked the grocery to-do list and the Christmas luncheon menu from 1958! Keep taking pictures of these! I usually read on my kindle, but when I do read a real book, I have actual book marks- or I’ve been known to use little note pads from hotels or junk mail.

Wow! These are fascinating! I loved seeing the variety. The one from 1958 really opened my eyes. I loved the grocery list, too! Mine is one from Island Book Store…of course!

I love stuff like this. Wondering about the people who read these books and why they used these as bookmarks. 💕

What an interesting collection. These bookmarks show us peeks into life, into time periods. This is such a fun post. Glad you thought to do this. Please continue documenting and sharing.

Very intriguing, aren’t they? I sometimes find odd bookmarks in library books I’ve checked out. As for my own favorite bookmarks, I do like the magnetic ones. I have one with a photo of a lighthouse we once visited and I love that one. But I also have a pretty string one with beads on the end that I use often too. Or if I’m too lazy to get up and find one of my bookmarks, I just grab a piece of paper nearby but I NEVER, EVER dog ear a page in a book. That is one of my pet peeves!

These are all interesting. Currently I am using a magnetic bookmark (so it doesn’t fly into the pool) It says “imagine” on it. I usually use a paper bookmark from some place I have visited.

Was the list that included Jimson Weed seed in a murder mystery ? Jimson weed can be quite deadly…most farmers and ranchers don;t want it around. It can be fatal to animals who ingest it.

Gosh, I don’t know but it would make sense! I am reading a mystery right now and they mentioned the same plant! Weird!

What a cool post. I feel like each of these bookmarks have their own story to tell about the bookmarker.

My current bookmarks are a belly dance show program and an painting of a yellow dog on a wooden bookmark I bought from an illustrator at a farmer’s market. 🙂
