When The Music Takes You Back in Time

10 Comments/ 522/ 0

You guys know what I am talking about, right? When you hear a song and it takes you right back to a place and time? This past week one of my college friends posted this picture on Facebook. I was immediately transported back to my college days. Thanks, Debbie.

Now I don’t know about you but this was one of the songs that I BLASTED every time it came on. It came out in 1981 when I was in college and it was one of my all time favorite Christian songs. The Imperials had an illustrious career with many members coming and going but this – The Trumpet of Jesus – will always be in my top favorite songs. Why? I think because it just was one of those songs that I could relate to and that trumpet part –yes – it made the song. I also could not get enough of the bass singer. Love, love, love it.

Music surrounds us and envelops us, It evokes feelings and memories. When I see my mom sometimes I will play hymns on my iPhone and we sing along together. Even if she does not know my name that day you can bet she knows all the words to those favorite hymns. The mind does not forget music. It connects us. It is woven in our lives and reminds us of times and places and people that are important to us.

I think that is why I love our Comments for a Cause so much this month. Project : Music Heals Us is all about that connection that we make with music. Taking music to those who are in most need of it and yet do not have access to it is such a gift and Project: Music Heals Us is doing just that. If you missed my post about what they do please click here to go directly to that post.

If you want to hear my favorite Imperials song (or one of them -there were so many) just take a listen. I have been blasting it since Debbie shared that she was listening to it. Did you know this song?
