A Blast from the Past

15 Comments/ 220/ 0

Don’t you just love it when you get a flash from the past? Recently I was reading a book and they referred to a type of perfume and it reminded me of one from my teenage years and I was immediately transported back.

The perfume that was mentioned in the book was Sunflowers and I distinctly remember having some but the one that came to the front of my mind was one that was called Just Call Me Maxi that I wore with abandon in my high school years. Now “I” loved it but my mom did not . I specifically remember my mom saying how much she hated it and thought it smelled like bug spray. Now isn’t that something that I remember how much she hated it? I imagine it is because I was very liberal with it.

I did a little search to see if they still make it and I did not find the exact match but one that is probably the current version.

Now the above is what I remember the bottle looking like when I used it back in the late 70’s. than I found this one. This shows what the fragrance notes are in this perfume. Who would have thought I was wearing all of these?

I actually found a video of a man reviewing the fragrance below. I will spare you the review, it was a little weird, but this is what is available now. I guess the packaging is updated and it is a little bit different. Do you think it would smell the same? I doubt that this 60+ year old woman needs to relive the perfume of her youth.

Did you have a signature fragrance? I hardly ever wear fragrance anymore because so many folks are so sensitive to fragrance. But on the off chance that I can find a sample of Just Call Me Maxi, I might just try it and see if it brings back any memories.

Evening in Paris was the popular one in my day. It came in a deep blue bottle and seemed so exotic at the time. I’m sure it was an overly sweet smell. I no longer wear perfume either, most make me feel ill. https://www.pinterest.ca/pin/320881542170790212/

Oh yes–Evening in Paris had a lovely bottle. I remember it well but I never wore it.

I like the perfumes by Jo Malone.
I don’t recall “Maxi” but you should try it again and see how you like it. The “scents” listed sound appealing. I’m going to ask my sister if she remembers your perfume. She’s your age.
    How about “Taboo”?!

Oh I remember Taboo as well! I never wore it but I do remember it. How fun to remember what we used to wear and what memories we associate with the smell.

How interesting! I remember wearing Charlie (and the commercials/ads for it) when I was right out of high school. I’m sure if I were to get a whiff of it now, it would bring back lots of memories. Then when I was dating the man who would become my husband (and Marshall’s dad), he gave me L’Air d Temps for Christmas one year. I no longer wear it, but it was a nice fragrance.

I thought this might be a topic that my readers would like to reflect upon and I was right. Those scents and the memories associated with them linger for a long time. Thanks for sharing.

See — we all need to revise our favorite fragrances. I remember that one as well and loved it.

If I had to pick one signature fragrance it would be Clinique Happy. That’s the one I wear most often and will always reorder! I wear others front ones to time but Happy is it for me. 💕
And like any 90/2000s kid I went through the Calvin Klein CK One phase. 🤣

I love Clinque Happy! I have some on my dresser right now but I don’t wear it often.

This brought back memories so I had to retrieve the bottle of April Showers friction cologne (what does that mean?) I received as a Christmas gift in my teen years. I just opened the bottle and smelled the sweet scent as an inch of the perfume remains. I still love the smell. But I don’t wear perfume. Not that treasured scent nor any.

Gosh I don’t remember that one. I will have to do some research on it. I can’t believe you didn’t use it all up when you were younger and still have some left. Very cool.

I’ve always enjoyed perfume but don’t wear much anymore. Probably my favorite (or signature, I guess) is simply called Liz Claiborne. I wore a lot of different fragrances as a teenager, then musk oil in college, and as a young adult, an Avon cologne named Timeless. Isn’t it funny how scents bring back memories? To this day, if I catch a whiff of the men’s cologne Brut, it makes me remember my first high school boyfriend. (And honestly, I’d rather forget him!) 😉 LOL

Oh I remember all of those fragrances. Isn’t it funny how a scent can take you back in time?

I honestly cannot remember what fragrance I wore. It was probably evening in Paris also because that was what my grandmother used. Now for years I have used timeless from Avon.
