Journal Ideas for Mother’s Day

11 Comments/ 4191/ 0

Mother’s Day is right around the corner and many folks are checking the internet for “the perfect gift”.  Our Mother’s Day tradition in the Chiles household has always been to have a Sunday afternoon picnic someplace and the “gift” has always been outdoor plants to get the summer season started off with a splash of color.  My birthday falls just a week or two before Mother’s Day so we kind of fell into this tradition years ago when the boys were small so that I did not feel the day was forgotten.

As time passes Chris and I still try to keep that tradition going even if the picnic involves just the two of us.  It is still a tradition that I am unwilling to give up and hope that someday I can do that same tradition with grand babies.

I have been a huge fan of any kind of journal and one of my favorite types of journals have been the ones that Katie Clemons has on her site Gadanke.  She is a master story catcher and I fell in love with her “She” and “Seeking Grace” journals several years ago.  I blogged about those here.

I was so excited to hear from Katie and find out that she is taking another step in her business and has recently released a new paperback journal that is geared especially for sons (ages 9 and up) and mothers.  Being the mom of two sons I would have loved to have had this when my boys were younger and I think we could have had a lot of fun with it.  Not sure that they would be willing to fill it out now at ages 31 and almost 28 but maybe I should ask?between Mom and Me

The journal is called Between Mom and Me and you can check it out by clicking on this link here.   It is a great tool that mothers and sons can use together to strengthen their bond and create memories at the same time.  I think it would make the perfect Mother’s Day gift for a mom with younger boys, don’ t you?

Another thing I found when I was checking out Gadanke  was this amazing Time Capsule journal under Give A Story.  This goes right along with my Comments for a Cause this month because Katie donates the journal you buy to a child through the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.  Genius, right?

Katie sent me a preview of the Between Mom and Me journal and I just had to share.  I love the simplicity of it but also that each book will be uniquely made by mother and son.   You can order a copy on Katie’s site here or by going to Amazon here.   She is working on revamping some things in her business and is only going to be offering her unique handmade journals through May 8th so if you see something you like you need to order today.  I placed an order and can’t wait to get my new journals.

Check out Katie’s Ted Talk below.  I think you will agree she is pretty amazing.

That baby journal on Katie’s site looks pretty sweet.

The mother-son journal idea is a good one, although I know I would never have gotten my boy to do this project. He does not like to write. Can you imagine that?

The baby journal would be perfect for you right now—I thought of you when I saw it. 🙂 I think you should snap it up….just saying.

I love your Mother’s Day traditions! Our tradition (not a big deal, really) is that we take each of our Moms out to a nursery to buy the biggest, prettiest hanging basket we can find. 🙂 This morning, I am heading to Mason City to take my Mom flower shopping, and tomorrow my husband is doing the same in Des Moines with his mom. It’s always fun letting them pick out something pretty!

I love the idea of a picnic tradition!! I may have to start that next year. Our weather is still being finicky up here, so it is too cool to do it this month. And I always want flowers and dirt and just general stuff for my garden too. That’s my happy place in the summer months. I think I am the only mom who asks for a big pile of actual dirt for Mother’s Day. LOL

We have a lot in common with the dirt thing. I actually got all the plants out that I plan to put out and also got my little fairy garden put together. I am not doing much because of the deer….I don’t want to just put out a nice salad bar for them.
