A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

11 Comments/ 28/ 1

About a million years ago (well maybe only 24) I was a young mom who loved her time with her boys.  Now I am an “old” mom who still loves time with her boys and their “girls”.

I found this newspaper clipping a few weeks back and it made me smile pretty big.  Yes, that is me with our youngest son, Aaron, who was 7 at the time.  We were attending a special night at his elementary school where author Sheila Kelly Welch was sharing a bit with PTO members and students.  As the author of a fun book, A Horse For All Seasons, Sheila Kelly Welch shared a few stories and entertained the crowd.

While I don’t remember a lot of what the author said that night I do remember this precious moment with Aaron feeding me popcorn.  The local newspaper photographer caught the moment for posterity.   Honestly it makes me a little misty eyed to see my sweet Aaron at that age.  With his wedding coming up in September it doesn’t take much to make me tear up.

I checked my bookshelves and found the book I bought that night.  I have a bookcase that has a couple of shelves devoted to signed books and this one was there so many moves and so many years later.

I checked out Amazon and found that there are a few copies of this cute book floating around out there.  If you are interested in a sweet collection of horse stories for younger readers this might be of interest to you.  You can check it out by clicking here.

Do you have a picture that you have seen lately that evokes a thousand words like this one did for me? I would love to read all about it in the comments. Don’t forget to Comment for a Cause for PAWS during this month.

How wonderful to still have this signed copy in your collection. The newspaper clipping of you and Micah is special and I would tear up too. I recently found a newspaper clipping from 1965 of my little brother at the local fairground asleep in his stroller. It is so cute. I made a copy and sent it to him.

Old newspaper clippings are fabulous, aren’t they? I am always happy when they reappear.

Oh, my goodness, so sweet! I can imagine it conjured up some tears to see that news clipping. Sometimes I just can’t believe my own children are all grown up – over 30 and our oldest only a few years away from the next decade. How did THAT happen??

How fun to run across this and to have the book too! I have a photo my dad took many years ago on a Christmas day when my girls were all very small. As was tradition in our family, it has the 4 of us sitting on the basement stairs towards the top waiting to come up and see what Santa brought. What really makes me smile is that all four of us are in footed pajamas! Looking at it now, I think of how very young I look. The picture makes me smile every time!

What a sweet photo and memory. I remember when Miranda loved horses and checked out every horse book available from the local library before moving to inter-library loans.

Maybe I need to pull out the photo album…

I love that you have a shelf dedicated to signed books. What a great picture of you and your son, too!

I do have a special shelf and it is one of the things that gives me much happiness to have signed books –especially from those of you out there who are friends. 🙂
