A World of Kindness – Inspired by Fred Rogers

15 Comments/ 77/ 0

If you only see one movie this holiday season I would encourage you to see A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. This movie is based on the life of the one and only Fred Rogers of Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood fame. I remember watching his shows with the boys and the Pittsburgh connection was a nice thing when we lived in Monaca, Pennsylvania. Watching the show did make me feel like we were neighbors.

I won’t ruin the movie for you by telling you much about it other than sharing a trailer at the end of this post but suffice it to say it is a keeper. Every once in awhile there are movies like Peanut Butter Falcon that inspire and touch my heart and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood did the same thing.

What can you say about a man who loves the hearts of children, who wants to ease any and all pain that they may encounter in their lives and who truly has a heart and compassion for all people? Not enough. I think what inspired me so much about this movie was the representation of Mr. Rogers as a listener. He did not hurry anyone to share. He waited. He listened. He responded but when he responded he focused on THAT person. Not on himself. Not sharing stories about how he had experienced a similar thing but fully focused on that individual with whom he was talking. Tom Hanks did an amazing portrayal of him in all ways.

What a great world it would be if we could all take a lesson from Mr. Rogers and just listen. Make the time to sit down and just listen. I truly believe it could make our world a much better place. Even if you don’t venture out to see the movie why not give listening a try this week? I think it could change your life and the lives of those you encounter.

What a wonderful trailer! Thanks so much. I teared up with the scene on the bus. I’m sure you would need to have some Kleenexes on hand. I look forward to seeing this movie. I will be humming It’s a Beautiful Day in the neighbourhood all day. xo

Yes–Kleenex definitely required. It is such a sweet story and one that just reminded me continually that it doesn’t take anything to be kind.

This movie is definitely on my list. I didn’t grow up with Mr. Rogers and don’t know much about him or his show so I’m interested in learning more about it.

He was quite an interesting man and one that truly lived a decent life. His impact on people was immeasurable.

Alright, you convinced me. When I was a kiddo, I was not a fan of Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood. The pacing of the show was too slow and not flashy enough. I was considering seeing the movie yesterday, but opted to go for a walk instead, but I’m adding it back to my must-see list.

    Peanut Butter Falcon was great.

Well the pace is slow in the movie as well but it is purposeful or something . I get what you mean but I think that was the whole reason he was so effective. He allowed time to be heard.

I haven’t seen a movie (in a theater) in two years. This looks like a must-see.

I too hope I get to see this movie. It is so my type of movie. Loving and kindness that pull the heart strings. Thanks, Beth Ann, for sharing.

It looks like it would be a very good film. Many fine reminders about how we should treat one another are listed here in your post, as well. Thanks for sharing this!

Our ladies group from church went to see it and loved it! Mr. Rogers was one of my favorite shows when I was a child.
