Balancing Act

Leave a Comment/ 10/ 0

Life is one big huge balancing act, isn’t it? Just when you think you have it all together- boom- something pops up to upset the equilibrium and you are left trying to balance things out once again. But the good news is that usually adjustments can be made and life can get back to some semblance of order again.

I have written many times about my feelings of inferiority and low self esteem, especially as a teenager. I just never felt I was good enough or measured up. There was absolutely no reason that I should have felt that way but I did. No one voiced those ideas to me but for some reason, I internalized those feelings and lived for many years thinking that I did not measure up. Oh how I wish I had realized earlier that this was not true and that life is a balancing act in so many ways.

We are assaulted daily with messages that are negative and can bring out feelings of diminished self worth. We can constantly compare ourselves to others and think that we just do not measure up. But I am here to tell you – if you read nothing else today – that you are enough. You can live that balanced life by just simply believing in yourself a little bit more each day.

Years ago when I lived in Iowa, I gave a little presentation at a Social Media gathering that I attended monthly. My presentation was simply about how each one of us can make a difference in the world and I used the example of seeing the ripples in water after a stone is thrown in. My motto was “be the ripple” and it kind of caught on with that group of people. I was reminded last week when one of those in attendance shared a project on Facebook that I responded to and he responded with that phrase of “be the ripple”. It’s funny how something I said probably 12 years ago resonated enough with one person to be remembered.

So how did that make me feel?

It affirmed, once again, that words matter and people remember them. It reinforced the fact that everyone needs to be reminded of their self worth at times, no matter how confident they may appear to be.

So today– read these affirmations and know that you are important. You matter.

You are important.

You are an incredible human being.

Your uniqueness is what makes you you.

You have gifts and talents that only you possess.

You are capable.

You are valuable.

You are irreplaceable.

You are the ripple.

I hope that your day is a great one and that you find a way to be the ripple today. I love you.
