The above sign is in the little “apartment” that we have over our garage. I retreated there the other day while Chris was on business calls and I wanted to read. As I sat on the couch I looked at that little sign that I had gotten at TJMaxx a long time ago and it made me pause. Yes, it is a choice. A daily choice. One that I choose to make every single day that I can.
Some days it is much easier to choose happy than others. There is a lot weighing on all of us these days with all of the concern and restrictions due to COVID – 19. But I refuse to give into fear and worry and am consciously choosing happy over the other options.
It’s funny how one little comment on Facebook can spark happy. A friend posted in a Brevard based group that she wanted to do some type of food drive to help those who are struggling right now. Another woman jumped into the conversation along with me and after a lot of brainstorming, messages and phone calls it was decided to start within our own community of Connestee Falls. Within 36 hours the plan was fleshed out, permission obtained, publicity created and the following event will be happening on May 2nd.

It makes me HAPPY to be able to be a small part of what we hope will be a huge success.
Today I choose happy. I hope that you are able to choose happy as well. Oh and another reason to be happy today – our oldest son turns 35. Happy Birthday, Micah. YOU make me happy.

Tell me – what makes you happy? Do you see anything around you that has anything to do with the COVID -19 pandemic that you can find happiness in? I would love to hear all about it. Please leave me a comment and remember to Comment for a Cause – WHO COVID -19 Solidarity Fund.

Leave a commentI love your sign. I will borrow it and share it, giving you credit of course. Yes, I have chosen to be happy at this time too. I have no reason not to be. I have a place to live in a great setting, a husband, family, friends and a dog who love me, books to read and food to eat. Every day I walk my dog and wave at other dog walkers and shout hello at a safe distance. The sun is shining and I am happy. Thanks for this. And a huge Happy Birthday to Micah!!
I love your attitude and spirit as well, Darlene. I mean honestly –we have to look at the positive side of things, don’t we? Glass half full !!
Happy Birthday Micah! Be happy!
I will pass it along to him! Thanks!
This post makes me happy. To read about your food drive. To read about Micah celebrating his birthday. Thanks for starting my day with happiness.
I know! I am so excited about the food drive. People are already making monetary donations so that makes me very happy as well.
Choose happy? Always! Thanks for the reminder. And Happy Birthday to your son. 🙂
Thanks! Yes—we definitely think along the same lines!
HAPPY is the only way to go everyday. The other way takes way to much away from our lives. Happy & Blessed Birthday to Micah!!
Happy birthday Micah. The sign Choose Happy is right, and it works well with the KISS philosophy also. My admiration to you and your community for your outreach, giving from your heart.
I try to choose happy over everything else but like you said, some days it’s easier than others. As much as I can I try to look for the positive in our current situation and hope that we all come out well on the other side. We just got the official word from our school’s owners that we will not be returning until next school year in August. So distance/online learning will continue until the end of May. Summer camp has also been canceled for the first time in 36 years which is crazy to me.
We are keeping an eye on the news and hope to be able to “escape” to the mountains for a bit this summer and are already working on finding accommodations. Keeping my fingers crossed but overall just hoping for a positive outcome to these crazy times.
It isn’t easy to choose happy when there is so much negativity in the world, but rejoicing in the small things seem to make me feel better: I love to watch my birds, to listen to the “Good Morning” call from my white-throated sparrows, to snuggle on the couch and fall asleep with Bodhi when we should be watching the Gubner speak, to just reading some good, ole Richard Russo and not thinking about the virus for awhile. I’m so grateful to have friends online, like you, Beth Ann, who always give such a refreshing perspective! Thank you for the posts! I love reading your blog!! Such wonderful reminders to see the good when life gets a little cloudy!!!
