Fashionable Romance Continues at The Biltmore

16 Comments/ 3348/ 1

I recently had the opportunity to go view the Fashionable Romance collection at The Biltmore in Asheville, North Carolina which features an amazing collection of movie costumes from movies including Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice and Out of Africa to name a few.  I loved being able to gaze on the intricate patterns and designs as they were featured in the opulent rooms of The Biltmore.

While photography was not allowed in previous visits the Biltmore policy has recently changed to allow non flash photography so I was able to capture some images of the costumes that I was unable to do on a previous visit when the Downton Abbey collection was on tour.  I am happy that they changed the policy and I suspect I am not alone.  While I did not go crazy taking pictures of everything I did manage to capture a few that even in the low light will give you an idea of the beauty of the collection on exhibit.

How about the movie Howard's End? There were some pretty intricate costumes in this selection on display.

My favorite room in the entire house is the library. I did not get great pictures on this visit but you get the idea–it is a massive room with only about half of George Vanderbilt’s massive 23,000 volume collection on display.  biltmroe15

I simply can not wrap my head around actually living in a place such as this, can you?  It is a masterpiece in every aspect and I am always ready for a trip back to explore some more.

If you are interested in seeing the Fashionable Romance exhibit at The Biltmore presented by Belk it will remain on site through July 4th. 2016.  It is worth a trip if you are in the area.  Pricing information and buying tickets online can be done by clicking on this link.

Wow!! I love all these amazing costumes. As a huge Jane Austen fan I have seen Sense and Sensibility a number of times. It made me sad to see Allan Rickman as we will not have a chance to see any more of his wonderful performances. The library is something else!! Thanks for the pictures.

Likewise, I can never imagine living in a mansion like this. But these places sure are fun to visit. Thanks for the tour of how the other side lives.

That is how you library. We’ve got some reading to do to catch up! Sadly even if we did have that many books our library would still be far less glamorous…

Beautiful!!! I can only imagine the attention to detail that is sewed into every single piece! Amazing.
Aurora’s Chariot!! “Rorybore” comes from this very painting — or I should say, inspired by the imagery. Very cool seeing it.

I loved this sneak peak into the Biltmore and the costume exhibit. It’s so exciting to see the luxurious fabrics and detailing up close. I’m sure viewing them in the Biltmore adds to the experience as opposed to viewing them in a museum. This reminds me that I’d love to watch Sense & Sensibility again!

It really is a neat way to view them and they fit them in so perfectly with the decor of the house that it makes perfect sense that they would do this here. The Downton Abbey collection was a lot of fun as well. Great to see you, Jackie!
