Let’s Go to the Movies

10 Comments/ 516/ 0

Last night a couple friends and I went to our cute little downtown movie theater – The Coed Cinema. You won’t find reclining seats or seats with rumbling built into them but there is something oh so nice about patronizing our little hometown cinema. They work hard to bring great movies to town and they have a great concession stand so that is all that matters to me.

We saw “Where the Crawdads Sing” which is a popular book by the same name written by Delia Owens. It is a popular book club choice and I really did love the book. Which made me a little nervous to see the movie. So often the movie versions of books disappoint me. They change too much of the story to make it good for the big screen and take too many liberties. But this movie stayed pretty true to the book story line and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Parts were difficult to watch but I also remember cringing when I read certain parts of the book so I guess that is part of the beauty of the story.

It got me to thinking about some of my favorite movies that I have watched over the years. Here is a random list of 10 of my favorites in no particular order and just off the top of my head.

The Big Chill

The Breakfast Club

Shawshank Redemption

The Green Mile

The Sound of Music

Top Gun (both of them)

Forest Gump

Gran Torino

Coda

The Help

What movies top your list? I would love to read those in the comment section so please Comment for a Cause – The Augustine Literacy Project.

I love small hometown theaters. There’s just something special about them and I’m happy when towns make an effort to keep them alive which is no small feat with todays big box movie theaters.

My girls are all about The Breakfast Club and the whole 80’s vibe movies like Sixteen Candles and so on.

I love going to the movies and couldn’t pick just one favorite. One that always pops up for me is Titanic.

I seldom go to movies, but I do want to see “Where the Crawdads Sing.” One of my all-time favorite movies is “Love Story.” I think that’s mostly because of the teenaged age in which I saw it.

The small theaters are the better. I guess because they bring back good memories for me. My uncle would take me to all of the Elvis movies when I was young. Later on, I loved Dirty Dancing.

I lived the Green Mile and The Help. I also loved the movie called The Green Book or something like that, though people said it was a stereotype. Actually loved Driving Miss Daisy, and Dancing with a White Dog also starring Jessica Tandy.

You’re fortunate you still have one of those movie theaters. No such luck here as all we have nearby are metroplex theaters. We don’t go to see movies very often any more but we did see the new Top Gun and really liked it.

I’ve not watched a movie since my husband went to Blockbuster to rent a videocassette. Change tech, lose views!

One I went to a theatre to watch was “Super Size Me.” Ironic, since I later went online from McDonald’s, and always ate fries. (But *only* one box of fries for my whole entire lunch.)

Great to see The Big Chill at the top of your list. It is also one of my favourite movies. Others are The Sound of Music, Doctor Zhivago, Sense and Sensibilty, Ben Hur, The Pianist to name a few.
