Merry Go Round Museum – Sandusky, Ohio

6 Comments/ 91/ 0

Sandusky, Ohio boasts a lot of great things to see but one of the best loved and most popular destinations has to be the Merry Go Round Museum located at 301 Jackson Street in downtown Sandusky. It was our destination for a gloomy gray Ohio day and we were thrilled to find so many great displays along with a fabulous working merry go round.

The museum is located in the old Post Office building and features a unique setting for the museum.

I have always loved merry go rounds and being able to visit this museum and have a close look at some amazing examples of fabulous workmanship was truly an experience worth having.

Just look at some of these examples of horses that are in the museum and I think you will agree that this is a wonderful place to visit.

Just look at the detail on this one.

Admission to the museum includes a wooden token which can be turned in for a whirl on the merry go round. The day we were there we got a really long ride because the museum was not busy and it was a fun way to end the tour. I would definitely recommend the ostrich as a good ride.

A great part of the museum is the woodcarvers who set up and work while visitors are touring the museum. Unfortunately on the day we visited there were no woodcarvers working so it would definitely be worth a trip back to see one of them in action. Since we were there in the off season I was not surprised but it might be worth a call to the museum ahead of time to check out if someone will be working on the day you plan to visit. I think it would add even more to the experience to be able to interact with them as they work.

It’s always good to “know before you go” when you visit an attraction so make sure to check out all of the details on their website located here.

There was so much to see in this museum that this is just a brief look. I loved this place and would love to take my great niece here one day.

Thanks for joining me today on this short tour of the Merry Go Round Museum in Sandusky, Ohio. Make sure to check out their website and social media outlets which I will list below. Do you love merry go rounds like I do? Leave me a comment and remember that for each comment on my blog this month we will make a 50 cent donation to Camp Robin Rogers. The reminds me of the merry-go-round at LARK Toys here in southern Minnesota. What fun.

Such a cool place. I’d love to visit one day…
I definitely like a good merry go round and as many times as we’ve been to Disney, the last time we were there, was the first time that I actually rode the merry go round in magic kingdom.

I’ve never stopped to consider the craftsmanship involved in these beautiful time capsules… Thanks once again for making me stop to consider and admire something I’ve never thought to consider before.
