More Than A Hanger

A hanger.

A simple item used to hold clothing.

As I worked on cleaning out my closet, taking out so many clothes that I no longer wear or need I noticed this little hanger at the end of the row.

It was empty.

It has little clips on it to  hold a skirt or a pair of pants but yet there was nothing on it in my jam packed closet.

Regardless of its lack of clothing the hanger made me smile.

This hanger was lovingly made by my Grandma Bonnie.  No, she didn’t actually make the hanger itself but she crocheted the red “padding” on it.  I have a few of these hanging around my house in various places and every single time I see it it reminds me of her.

Her favorite color was red so of course that is the color that she chose.  I guess the apple didn’t fall far from the tree in that case, right?

I love when I have a visual reminder of someone.  The hangers that hang in my closet that hold my clothes may be basic and simple items but when this one pops up it is much more than a hanger.

It is a reminder of a loved one.

It is a simple hanger and yet to me it is so much more.

You must have felt as though she reached out and hugged you.

Yes! It is such a neat thing to have things like this from loved ones that are constant reminders. Thanks, Bernadette!

This is such a beautiful love tribute to your grandma. I was especially nostalgic yesterday as I pulled out the Christmas decorations.

Love it! My great grandma did the same crocheting of padding!

I have some crochet-trimmed hangers, but none so beautifully padded as that one! She was a better than average crocheter…

Isn’t it wonderful when we have something made by a family member or friend long ago? Such memories. These kinds of things are kept forever, sometimes at the back of a closet, sometimes on the doorknob.
