Off The Beaten Path – Pickens, South Carolina

9 Comments/ 95/ 1

I would imagine that Pickens, South Carolina is not a place that most people would seek out for a day trip.  Chris and I were on an adventure and needed a coffee place and that is why we ventured into Pickens. It is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  We found our coffee at Coyote Coffee Cafe and decided to explore the little downtown.  Colorful quilt blocks decorate many of the buildings.

With a population of just upwards of 3000 it did not take long to take in the few blocks that composed the downtown but I managed to snap a few pictures to share today.

Some of the store fronts have seen better days but they were great to photograph.

There is not a lot of shopping in the downtown area and we managed to visit on a Tuesday when several shops were shuttered but we made the most of it and spent a brief time just walking the main street.  One of the big things that appeared to take up many of the spaces was Behavioral Health Services   where folks with substance abuse issues go to receive treatment.

The sun was shining the day we visited and it shows in a couple of the photographs that I took.

It was a quick walk around the town but it was a nice one.  We did pop into one really great store that will be shared in a later blog post.

Thanks for joining me today for a quick glimpse of Pickens, South Carolina.  Which is your favorite picture from the post today?  Tell me in the comments and Comment for a Cause for Folds of Honor.

I always love when I see quilt blocks on barns and buildings. I am sure there were some we missed in town but I did love the ones we saw. The hummingbird one was my favorite.

Interesting little town. It’s fun to explore places like that. I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of this saying – slim pickins’ – but from the neat photos you got of Pickens, I’d say the pickin’s weren’t slim. 😉

I love finding these off the beaten track places. They have so much charm. I enjoyed the pictures of the quilts on display. Did you find a place to have a coffee?
