Anyone that visits Lakeside, Ohio is drawn to the Lakefront Path which bears the name of Ohio’s Most Beautiful Mile. With Lake Erie as a magnificent backdrop walkers can enjoy walking along the shoreline taking in not only the lake but also stunning flower displays and spots to sit and enjoy the scenery.I have countless pictures that I have taken over the years of this landscape and I have to admit that in the past 3 or 4 years the Lakefront Path has gotten increasingly more beautiful. The addition of four conversation terraces with seating have opened up and when I visited recently I observed many groups of friends and family taking advantage of those areas.
Benches are plentiful and I usually find one afternoon during the week when I just go find a bench and sit and read. It is probably one of the most relaxing things that I do all year and I look forward to that opportunity to commune with God’s world on a small level.
The floral displays have gotten better and better over the past years and I have countless pictures on my external hard drive of Lakeside. If I were to try to include every single one I would be posting about Lakeside every day for years. So today I selected some of my favorites and am interspersing them here and there within the post.
What is it about Ohio’s Most Beautiful Mile that appeals to me most?
Perhaps it is the leisurely way I can walk and take in the sights.
Lakeside has a “no hurry” atmosphere and even though there are deadlines and appointments and meals to be cooked it never feels that way when I visit. I am on Lakeside time. Not unlike beach time or island time or lake time it is that carefree feeling that allows me to take it all in and not be overwhelmed with making sure I get something done in a certain time period. The Lakefront Path passes fabulous houses and cottages with vistas that would appear to go on forever. If I were a home owner here I would find it difficult to break away from my front porch I am sure.
Lakeside holds the America in Bloom national award and participated in the Communities in Bloom competition as well and it is obvious that all of the stewards of Lakeside are doing an incredible job of keeping their lakefront beautiful. So if you find yourself in the Lakeside Marblehead Peninsula area stop and walk the Lakefront Path, Grab a bench and take in the view and enjoy Ohio’s Most Beautiful Mile. You will be glad you did.

I have enjoyed sharing this special place with you.
Thanks, Bernadette! There are a few more posts to come. I just can’t stop! 🙂 Hopefully it will inspire some readers to go visit in person sometime. Thanks again for coming along for the tour.
Lovely lovely!
🙂 I think so as well. Just wait–I have a Cats of Lakeside post coming up as well. 🙂
Looks like a very special, beautiful place!
It is definitely a really special place. I love it there obviously.
These photos are stunning, especially the sunset. I could retreat here. Beautiful, beautiful place.
We really should meet one year when you go. I only live an hour away.
We need to make that happen, Miranda! I will work on it!
It’s incredibly beautiful! I love all those blooms and I think I would be doing a lot of strolling there. We have a waterview walk path too, but I am afraid they don’t do too much with it. It’s bordered by the marina and a community park with splash pad on one side and the nature reserve on the other, and you can walk or bike all through it, so I suppose they think that is enough “nature.” That sunset shot is gorgeous!!
Thanks! It is gorgeous and your “walk” sounds lovely as well. There is a kiddie pool and a splash pad by the dock in Lakeside as well which draws in a lot of kids!
enjoyed the beauty
Thank you, Carl. It is really an amazing place as you can tell from my excitement and multiple posts. 🙂
Looks gorgeous! I applaud your rural internet, ours is plagued with so many issues, it’s made not only blogging hard, but social media & video as well… Would love to go here & not think about it! LOL
[…] Beth Chiles has a lovely website, itsjustlife.me. She writes about teapots, books, travel, writing and she emphasizes good causes. I met her through a mutual friend on Twitter. Beth had won a book giveaway and I contacted her to get her address. In the course of emailing each other we worked through our degrees of separation. We started out with her in North Carolina and me in Ohio. Beth had an Ohio connection, New Concord where she lived as a youth, and she still had relatives in the northern Ohio area. I told her that I spent the summers near the Lake Erie Islands. That did it! In her next email, she replied that she had just finished her yearly vacation at…Lakeside! She has written several posts about Lakeside, with beautiful photos that you will enjoy. Here is one of them. […]
