Peeking Out of My Shell

8 Comments/ 74/ 0

That’s me –in that photo at the top of the post.

That turtle is me.

Both Chris and I have had our second Covid-19 vaccinations and although we are not quite to the two week timeframe following the second shot I am peeking out of my shell a little bit.

We have been oh so very careful as have many of our friends and loved ones. It has been a very long year and I can see you all nodding your heads. I was not willing to take chances with my health or the health of others so I refrained from a lot of activities that others were doing.

They might have been perfectly fine but for me they weren’t and that is what I had to go with. I tried to not be too judgmental and failed many times.

This past week I ate in a restaurant for the first time since last March. It was weird. The servers were all masked, the room we were in only held 3 tables with seating for 2 at each. It was clean and sanitized and safe. But it still felt very odd. More on that visit tomorrow on the blog — it’s tea related after all.

Next week we will be at the beach again but this time we plan to find some places to eat outside at. The weather will be great and I am anxious for someone else to cook for me and serve me. But it is still a weird feeling, you know? I just kind of became a hermit for the past year.

The other thing is that I am in planning mode now. A BFF trip with Ann in May, a sister trip in June with Paula, a trip to New Jersey to visit and baby sit Theo, and finally a trip to Ohio in September to finally celebrate the life of my mom with family and friends followed by a wonderful week in my beloved Lakeside with all the family. It feels good to be able to plan a few things and be excited about being with those I love.

Have you been in a planning mode like me? Have you been able to safely gather with family and friends? Does it feel odd to you like it does to me? I would love to hear all about it in the comments so please Comment for a Cause for Ohio Guidestone.

I know the feeling. It just feels wierd to go to a restaurant after all this time. I´m afraid to plan anything though as so many plans had to be cancelled over the past year. I would love to gte back to Canada and do a celebrtaion of my mom´s life. Still too early to plan though. I think we have become used to being hermits!

I think we all have had to come to grips with ways to survive our hermit life. I am definitely still being very careful!

My second shot is this Thursday! I was disappointed it took me so long to get mine. We stayed at home as much as we could and were careful getting together with our little family.we did go to Florida two times- and were hermits there. Plus- we downsized! Sold 2 houses! I may never eat out much again or be around crowds. I have a relaxing, easy life now. Oh and drive thru at Dairy Queen to get Blizzards was our big treat. Glad you are breaking out!

Yep- hermit life for me as well. When we went to the beach we did nothing but beach walk and be in the unit. Still will take all the precautions but trying to not freak out too much. 😊

We are getting our second doses tomorrow and I’m sure even after the time is over, we will still be cautious. Corey and just planned a trip to Savannah for our 20th anniversary which will be about 2 weeks after the second dose – I dont see us not following the same precautions as before.

Exactly! Even though vaccinated we will definitely still be doing all the precautions. It’s just too soon to be careless and I know of cases of vaccinated people who have still gotten COVID. So yes—- precautions definitely needed. Congrats on the upcoming 20th!

We are still in the caution and safety mode as Randy has not yet gotten his second dose of the Moderna vaccine. He gets that on Saturday. I am most looking forward to our immediate family being all together, hopefully in May. I can’t wait to hug my daughter. That said, the reality of COVID still rages. Randy’s cousin Laura just lost her husband to COVID. He was only 60 with no underlying health conditions. This makes the seventh loved one of family or friends to die of the virus.

Chuck has been completely vaccinated and I receive my second tomorrow. We too are being as safe as possible. We have been back to eating out but pick times and places that are not busy. So far has worked out ok. We are in the planning stage of thinking about a few small trips. Sounds like you and Chris are going to have much needed trips. How wonderful that you will have more time with your sweet grandson.
