Taking My Own Advice

2 Comments/ 15/ 0

I am good at giving advice. So good that I offer it for free. But sometimes I realize that I honestly need to take my own advice. Do you ever feel that way?

One of my pieces of free advice is to make time to just be – to be able to have time that is unscheduled and free. I woke up this morning with a headache and a list of tasks to to that was way too long.

None of the tasks were daunting but it was just that list of emails to respond to, the reports to write, the contacts to make for committees I am on and some cards that I wanted to send out. But those all seemed to add up and you guessed it – I got a bit stressed.

I had a lunch date at the club house and went up early to work in the library which to my surprise and happiness needed little attention. My volunteers this week have shown up and done a great job so I found myself with 20 minutes of down time. So I took some of my own advice and sat.

.

.

Our view from the library is beautiful and as I sat and looked over the golf course I saw a mama deer and her fawn out amongst the golfers. It is such a serene setting and I did what I rarely take time to do — I just sat. It was lovely.

Sometimes it is good to take my own advice. Today was one of those days.

Old Girls in Low Cotton

This short book was one that looked like it would be a fun read. I honestly did not enjoy it all that much---it was a lot of characters bickering and while some of the writing was witty and funny it was not that kind of book that made m...

Another great book by John Green. I have become a huge fan of John Green since my reading of A Fault in our Stars and this book was another that did not disappoint me at all. It was a story of a child prodigy, a lot of anagrams, and a b...
