The Dogs of Brevard – July 4th Pet Parade – Small Town Fun

16 Comments/ 91/ 1

There is just something about small towns and their celebrations that keep a smile on my face. Brevard, NC is one of those places where the celebrations are larger than life and the fun is unending on holidays. This past July 4th was no exception to that and I loved being able to take in the annual Pet Parade.

Our local mayor, Jimmy Harris, is the perfect person to host the annual festivities and has a great way of introducing each entrant and their owner. It is small town living at its best when Jimmy steps up to share his comments on each of the participants.

I loved being able to see these pooches all decked out in their red, white and blue and today I know that there are a lot of dog lovers who follow It’s Just Life so this post is dedicated to all of you. Enjoy.

The skirt slippage made it a little difficult for this doggie to walk but it sure brought in the laughter and applause.
Most likely would win for most colorful dog.
Mayor Jimmy Harris interviewing this cutie who was blind and deaf.

Cats don’t tolerate being dressed up in costumes probably quite as much as dogs do although I do remember dressing up cats in doll clothes when I was little. These dogs definitely gave me a chuckle and I had to share them with my readers. Which one is your favorite? Let me know in the comments section and Comment for a Cause for AAUW Scholarship Fund.

Well, I’m one of those dog lover followers of yours and I love this post. Hard to pick a favourite but that colorful poodle is pretty amazing! I don’t think Dot would like to be dressed up and paraded about. I too used to dress up kitties in doll clothes and so did my daughter. We did acquire a few scratches.xo

I thought of you and Dot when I wrote this post because I knew you would love it. She is one special loved doggie and I am so glad I have “met” her online. 🙂

Aw, some of them seem to be taking it all in stride, but there are a couple who look a bit embarrassed! I’m sure it was a fun time!
I, too, tried to dress up my cats in doll clothes when I was a little girl. That didn’t always go off as planned…I think I still have a tiny scar or two from a claw!

Well, I don’t think I can pick a favorite – they were all great! I used to put doll clothes on my cats too when I was a child, and only had one cat that would tolerate it for very long.

You are so right about small towns. I have one I visit on a regular basis and I friends there and I can just be me. They don’t hit me with a lot of questions I really don’t want to talk about. One of my friends there runs a mile long yard sale twice a year. A trip to see them is not far off because yesterday I got some news that I figured it was coming but that news means things I have done for decades are over.

Thanks. As I said to a friend today.” I never thought at this time of my life I would have to make such drastic changes.” I did find me a cute teapot yesterday.

I remember dressing our farm cats in doll clothes and trying to get them to lie still in a dolly buggy. Didn’t work well. Never tried it with our farm dogs.

What a fun event. I love anything small town.

I like the tall grey poodle-type at the end, too, but cheers to whoever’s treated a blind, deaf dog so well that it’s cool with being picked up by a new acquaintance in a crowd of strangers.

I did try to pick just one but they all are adorable. There is nothing like a small town and the fun they have. Grew up in two of them. Good memories.

So adorable. I can’t pick a favorite. I told Corey that we should try to come up for 4th if July next summer. The parade looks so fun here in Boone. 🙂
