Three Words for 2023

8 Comments/ 160/ 0

If you read my post yesterday you had a hint about my words for the year. I usually try to pick 3 words to focus on during the year and even though I am late to share them I have had them on my mind since the beginning of the year. It’s been a good thing to have some words to kind of guide me through the year.

This year my three words are different and I hope that I can keep them in front of me all year. Let’s take a look, shall we?

Bloom. As I shared in yesterday’s post about creating a multi media picture featuring my word I chose bloom as one of my words. From Merriam Webster:

Bloom: Blossom, the flowering state, a period of flowering,  a state or time of beauty, freshness, and vigor, a state or time of high development or achievement.

The word that stuck out in my painting was Bloom and it can take on many different meanings. What I think of when I focus on the word is along the lines of having a fresh outlook on things and developing those areas of my life that developing into something beautiful. So this. year I hope to bloom.

Enlarge: To make larger, to give greater scope to, to set free, to speak or write at length.

Enlarge was actually a word that I found in my daily devotional that focuses on a word a day. Enlarge is a wonderful word to use as a simple prayer because it can take on so many different meanings. I pray to enlarge God’s kingdom, to enlarge my ability to love others, to enlarge my generosity and to enlarge the way that I live in all aspects.

Intentional: Done by intention or design.

Intentional has been one of my words previously and it is a good one to remember this year. I have found myself going about things in a willy nilly sort of way at times and I really want to be much more intentional and ordered about how I spend my time. Too often I find that I am doing things because at the time it seemed like a great idea but in reality it may have not been the best use of my time. So this year I hope to be much more intentional about things.

What about you? Do you choose words for the year and if so what did you choose this year? I would love to hear about it in the comments and remember that each comment on any blog post this month means a 50 cent donation to our Comments for a Cause — St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Good words- all very positive & aspirational! I pray you have a great year!
As you know, my word of the year, which I don’t always choose one, is “Oatmeal”. It reminds me to focus on my health, to stay solid and basic; also the Quaker Oars company started in my home town, so oatmeal” reminds me of my roots.

I love this idea, and I started doing it, too. This year my main word was, “Trust.” I think that’s an important one for me. Thanks for sharing yours and turning me on to this practice.

Those are three excellent words you chose for this year! I decide on a statement instead although it consist of three words. Savour the Moment. I tend to be always looking ahead and not enjoying the here and now. I think it’s time to change that. Good luck with your words!! xo

I would never think of “enlarge” as a focus word. But it makes sense since it’s pretty encompassing. I’m stuck on “hope” as my word. Maybe “hope” will always just be my word.

I love that you chose bloom. That’s such a good word. And I fell like all three of your work together really well. My word for the year is “connection”. I’m trying to be more deliberate with my connections to family and friends. 💕

Good words, Beth Ann! I don’t do the word for the year mostly because I forget a lot. But I think it’s a worthwhile thing to do.

I didn’t…too many unpaid chores and not enough paid jobs were on my mind, again.
