Ask and Ye Shall Receive

14 Comments/ 103/ 1

Ask and Ye Shall Receive?  What on earth?

Sometimes the simplest things are accomplished by simply asking.

Last week I shared with my readers a little story about negativity in our little community and how I deal with it.  You can read that post here.  In the post I alluded to a set of realty literature boxes that were on a site that I had my eyes on for future Little Free Libraries.

On Monday I got a call from an unknown number and when I listened to the message I got so excited.  It was a guy from the construction company that is getting the lot ready for the Dollar General store.  He had seen my note on the boxes which I had wisely put in a plastic page protector.  (It does rain a lot around here.)  He said if I wanted them that I could have them all and to come get them.

Was I a little bit excited?  Ask my husband.  I was thrilled.

So my brother and sister in law went with me to check them out.

When we got there the workmen were working on hauling dirt and I approached one of them and told him Larry had called me .  He knew all about it and said I could take all of the boxes if I wanted them.

We checked them out and decided to take them all .

With the help of one of the workers we wrestled them into the back of the Subaru two at a time.

They are going to be perfect.  Simply perfect little homes for 4 Little Free Libraries.

They are now lined up behind our extra parking place by the garage and I am going to research paint and the best way to get them functional for use as Little Free Libraries.  One is going to my sister in Ohio, one may go to my sister in law that helped me transport them, one I am going to keep and place somewhere and one is up for grabs.

I may be crazy but I am so excited that I asked.  If I hadn’t they would have just been trashed and what a waste that would have been.

Tell me — what color should I paint mine and how should I embellish it?  I have seen lots on the internet of ones that have been repurposed but of course I couldn’t find any of those pictures today.  I did find this one on Etsy for an example.  I don’t think they did a single thing to this one.

So what do you think?  Crazy book lady? Or wise recycler?

Have you ever asked for something you didn’t think you would get and ended up getting it?  Let me know all about it in the comments section. Every comment this month means a 50 cent donation to The Highland Youth Garden

AWESOME!!!!!!!! I am so excited, too. Now to “sell” my church members on the idea of installing a Little Free Library on our grounds. OR maybe somewhere close to the Village Point, which is now doing a BOOMING business in their newly reopened (and repurposed, come to think of it!) building…. Hmmmm…. so many possibilities and so much excitement to share my love of books and reading.

I am thrilled as well. I think these will make perfect starter libraries with very little start up costs. I would think that your little town will be the perfect spot since you don’t have a library in town for residents. Can’t wait to see where these end up being used. Thanks for stopping by, sissy!

Thanks! I was so excited when I got that message. i think the construction guys were amused by me and didn’t really get what I was using them for but maybe they will understand it later!

I have to come up with a plan but I suspect it will have to wait until after our August wedding. 🙂

I can understand your excitement. Good for you. I cannot wait to see how you transfrom these plastic box discards into Little Free Libraries.

Absolutely wild idea … awesomeness abounds all around you. Always wanted to have one of these but the HOA frowns. Have to learn what could turn their frowns upside down.

Wise recycler! I feel so happy every time I pass by a little free library. I did sign up for next door too – ours is pretty positive.

[…] I am in a holding pattern with putting up another one.  You might recall I rescued some literature boxes  to use for Little Free Libraries (you can read that post here). […]
