Dear Bahamas – We Are Thinking of You

14 Comments/ 80/ 2

2011 found our family of 4 making a trip to the Bahamas over Thanksgiving. We had had a pretty tough year with the death of Chris’s dad earlier and we just needed some fun time together as a family. A trip to the Bahamas was planned and today as we are seeing the devastation left from Hurricane Dorian I went back to look at pictures from that trip.

Our hearts go out to the people of the Bahamas and to all affected by Dorian. The following pictures are probably somewhat bittersweet because they may not really exist like this anymore but for now I am remembering a really great time with my guys. (Click on any picture to enlarge and view the gallery.)

Have you ever taken a trip to the Bahamas? I would love to hear about it in the comments. Remember each comment made on It’s Just Life this month means a 50 cent donation to our Comments for a Cause — Donors Choose.

Yes, it is sad to see all the devastation. A friend shared a video on his FB page of water coming in a 2nd story room in a home there. It was so frightening to see the waves OUTSIDE the window.
We went to the Bahamas twice back in 1998 and 1999… They were those quick trips: something like 4 nights, 3 days. One the second trip, we were on the last plane out before Hurricane Floyd hit.

I never vacationed in the Bahamas but I did LIVE there for 2 years, in the capitol, Nassau, on New Providence Island. Lovely place to visit but no, you really don’t want to live there unless you like boating, fishing, lying on the beach and being just generally lazy and bored. None of those things are on my list of preferred activities LOL

We have not but some years ago our son and our granddaughter went on a sailing ship around the Bahamas as one of her Venture Crew activities. I noticed last night our DIL was wondering if the sailing ship was okay and had posted pictures on Facebook. She did get an answer from one of the owners of the sailing ship and they had gotten out and away well before Dorian

I haven’t watched any news today — it is really difficult to watch.

It is very difficult to see any type of natural disaster destruction but this Dorian mess is simply heartbreaking.

I’ve never been to the Bahamas, but I used to live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and went through several hurricanes. Nothing as bad as Dorian, but still, I can totally empathize with the devastation. And the aggravation of not having fresh water and electricity!

Hurricanes are no fun. I am sure you lived through a lot of bad storms on the Mississippi Gulf Coast — it is no fun to be in the middle of those.
