Crabby Appleton

Who remembers Crabby Appleton?

I read the fabulous book Litani by the amazing Jess Lourey earlier this week. If you are a lover of mysteries, spooky and scary and disturbing, this is the book for you. The book comes out officially next month and is based on a true story and Jess Lourey is the most amazing writer. If you have never checked out any of her books it is time to do that. I started reading her Month by Month series years ago that star Mira James. The fun Minnesota based stories are just that – fun.

Her last few books have been page turners that are based on real life stories. Litani is the latest in this series and is really a book that sticks with you. If you want to pre order just click here.

But I digress.

In the book I saw the phrase Crabby Appleton and it made me laugh.

I remember Crabby Appleton from the Tom Terrific cartoons on Captain Kangaroo.

Growing up we were not allowed too much television time but I do remember watching Captain Kangaroo at times. Crabby Appleton was a great character and I find myself thinking about ole Crabby a bit lately.

I have been a bit of a Crabby Appleton lately. Oh I know – you think that isn’t me but this week I have been for some reason.

Not that I want everyone to be unhappy or have been doing bad things but I have been allowing things to get to me a bit too much lately.

I mailed a package of clothes to Theo and it has not arrived 10 days later. Tracking has not shown any movement since I dropped off the package at the Cedar Mountain post office. I have made several inquiries and no one can seem to find the package. It is making me crabby. I might be obsessing about it a bit. Ask Chris. I am obsessing a lot.

I currently know of three people that are in ICU’s with Covid doing very poorly. That makes me sad and yes- crabby- because I feel like we could have avoided this a bit. And I know others in quarantine because of contact tracing. Crabby, crabby, crabby.

I stepped in fresh goose poop on the way to the dock. Crabby, crabby, crabby.

So bear with me a bit while I work out my crabbiness. I promise to come back and write things that aren’t crabby and mean spirited.

Why don’t you leave me a comment that will turn my crabbiness into happiness? Don’t forget — it’s all for Comments for a Cause for UMCOR this month. And thank you to Jess Lourey for making me remember ole Crabby Appleton.

We all have those times and it’s ok. Your feelings are what they are. I’m sure you’ll feel less crabby soon. ❤️
And I do hope the package to Theo can be found and make his way to him.

I didn’t remember Crabby Appleton (I was already in school so didn’t see the Captain much) When I saw the name I was thinking of the old Little Rascals episode where the gang learns they are getting a new teacher named “:Miss Crabtree” and Alfalfa gets overheard mocking her – and of course she turns out to be young and gorgeous and Afalfa nearly ends up in tears trying to show how sorry he is.

Turn that frown upside down! I don’t know who said that first but I loved it as a child. I have Crabby Appleton days too. And watch out for goose poop. ☹😊

I watched Tom Terrific and I find myself more and more becoming Crabby Appleton. People are rude. Everyone has to be first in line or they speed to a red light. Sometimes it makes me laugh but when my phone rings asking for a donation to the police in a state clear across the country, I become Crabby Appleton. And when the calls tell me that I need the Medicare Advantage plan and I definitely become Crabby the say “You don’t have to yell” my Crabby Appleton smiles as hang up!
Crabby has made my life better!
