Dear 2020…
If you could write a letter to 2020 what would it say?
Our local library in Transylvania County is doing a great little project. The Community Postcard Project is a unique way to help document the year 2020. The idea is very simple. Pick up a blank postcard from the library (click here to print your own from home) and fill it with your year-end thoughts, reflections, hopes & musings. Return your postcard to the library by December 31 and they will be stored and not opened until the year 2030!

I have thought a lot about what I would write ever since I saw the news release about the project. I know a lot of people have a lot of negative things to say about 2020 and that is understandable. I get it. I truly do.
I haven’t written my postcard yet but I think I would like to focus on the positives of 2020. Here is a short list I have started working on.
- I have had more time with my husband, Chris, and it has been really nice.
- I have had the opportunity to spend more time reading which always makes me happy.
- We have spent more time outdoors exploring safe and new to us trails and places.
- I have experimented with cooking and discovering new recipes a bit more than during a “normal” year.
- I have been able to focus on fundraising efforts for others in the community who have been hit hardest by the pandemic.
- I have saved money on makeup. Not going out? Don’t need to get all gussied up.
That’s my list so far. Of course there have been negatives and the top of that list is being unable to travel and see family and friends but it is time to not be selfish and do the right thing and just stay home until we can travel more safely.
What would be in your letter? I would love to hear what you would include so please share in the comments section. Remember that each comment means a 50 cent donation to our Comments for a Cause – Emergency Covid-19 Combat Service.

Leave a commentSimilar blessings! I would keep yours and add:
1. I talked with and saw my kids much more, as they worked from home.
2. I stopped running around for the sake of running around.
3. I learned how to Zoom!
4. I became much better at washing my hands, etc which I hope will keep away colds and other illnesses.
But, really, if it could end soon, that would be great!
Oh yes— Zoom proficiency is a good addition! I also realized how I thought I practiced good hand washing but really didn’t! Thanks for sharing! ❤️
What a fabulous idea. You list is perfect and I especially like the first one. Spending more time with hubby has been great. And especially for you as yours travels a lot. I also got to spend a lot of time with my dog. I learned to use Zoom and have connected with many friends I hadn´t been in touch with much. There has been a closeness with friends on line that has been special. Many positives for sure.
See— I knew people could come up with positives!! Thanks for yours! Give Dot a Pat for me!
Will do!! xo
A few positives include
Retirement and spending more time with Jeff
Reconnecting with old friends (Beth Ann)
Admiring God’s beauty in my own backyard
Deep cleaning. Not fun but more time to do it. It is amazing the junk that has accumulated. Donating most.
Great list!!!
I love that you went with the positive & not negative.
I’m with you on this, as much as it’s understandable to have negative feelings about 2020, I feel that there are also a lot of good things that have happened, things that we maybe took for granted before. I’m thankful that everyone on my family has their health, that we are all together and have been able to spend more time with each other and yes, I’m so happy to have been able to indulge my reading hobby. 🙂
I love your heart and your spirit for looking for the good things as well. It is absolutely the best way to live life!
It is so much better to focus on the positives and not the negatives. Who needs more negativity ? Not me!
I love that you focused on the positive things!
Always glass half full! Thanks for stopping by!
What a fun idea. The down side to the pandemic has been that our business has been closed for several months. The upside has been the time spent together with my husband and daughter. It’s tough, but I have found a lot of joy in this time as well.
So sorry about your business— hopefully you will be back
Up and running soon. Thanks for stopping by!
What a wonderful idea! I would focus on the positive aspects like my husband still has his job, I am able to have facetime with my son who lives states away and that I was able to find and become friends with my half sister.
Those all sound like amazing things! Thanks for stopping by!
This is such a neat idea. Even if family and friend write and someone takes charges and files away.
That’s a great idea!!! I love it -it would be a fun Christmas activity even!
This is a fantastic idea, it sure does make you reflect and a good reminder to focus on the positives. Thanks for sharing this.
WOW, this is a splendid and fantastic idea. May I steal this idea for our group, with credit to Transylvania County library?
I am sure this can have a positive outcome. Thank you so much for sharing on SIPB
Absolutely! Isn’t it a great idea??? I loved it and thought it was worth sharing!
Great idea, I would add social media has been a blessing and a curse, Zoom is an amazing way to keep in touch, and that I was very fortunate to have still been able to travel with my chap on this year I chose for my sabbatical 🙄😂
