It All Started With a Latte

10 Comments/ 86/ 0

A latte. A simple enough drink made with espresso and steamed milk. Until…Starbucks came up with the Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL) and pumpkin spice became a thing. And boy – is it ever a thing.

Pumpkin Spice has overtaken the world and folks either fall on the “YAY – I can’t wait for Pumpkin Spice Season” side or the “Gross — don’t want to go there” side. I do like a good pumpkin spice item but some of them have stretched the boundaries a bit. I have posted a couple posts previously of pumpkin spice treats and you can read that post by clicking here and here.

Today I am offering up a few more pumpkin spice options that I discovered this year. Come on – it’s all for the celebration of the season.

The official products.
The food products on display. A little disappointing in presentation, don’t you think?

I felt like the products that I bought this year were a tad disappointing. The Life cereal (not pictured on the plate) was pretty good. Not an overwhelming taste of pumpkin or spice but it was there and I enjoyed that taste. I think the disappointing food items were disappointing because they just did not look visually appealing. The PopTart was barely filled with filling, the Milano cookies were “meh” and the marshmallows were not very tasty at all. The pumpkin spice applesauce was okay but it is not something I would buy again. I am usually a huge Belvita fan (they are great for a snack or breakfast on the go) but this flavor did not rally much support and enthusiasm from me. I haven’t made the pancakes yet (this weekend) but I am hoping they are decent. How can you ruin pancakes, right?

Pumpkin Spice Bath Salts and Bath Bomb

I have to give a two thumbs up for the Pumpkin Spice Bath Salts and Bath Bomb that I found. Both were lightly scented and not overwhelmingly pumpkiny but more spicey. I kind of liked that. I am a huge bath lover and sometimes it is fun to branch out from the lavender and other florals that I like to use. The bath bomb made the water very orange and tub clean up post bath was a necessity but every once in awhile this one would be okay.

So there you have it. My very unofficial and not very great reviews of my latest pumpkin spice acquisitions. So tell me – are you Team Pumpkin Spice or not. All comments on the blog mean a 50 cent donation to our Comments for a cause this month -Shadowbrook Farm. Click here to read all about it.

I love pumpkin spice and I see it is just starting to catch on here in Spain too. When I landed in Canada, a Pumpkin Spice latte was my first stop. Later, I bought pumpkin spice instant oatmeal to make for breakfast at my friends house and it was very good, not too strong a flavour, just right. (Goldilocks oatmeal!) I am curious to hear how the pancakes turned out.

Thanks for trying all of the foods! I don’t think we bought anything pumpkin spice. I wouldn’t mind having some pumpkin spice coffee syrup on hand all year, though.

Love this! I know you don’t judge so I will admit I bought a box of PS Frosted Flakes. Beck Vita PS inspired me but I agree- more of a cinnamon flavor. Life is fun, isn’t it!

I do love Pumpkin Spice season – my first ever blog post in 2011 was titled “pumpkin spice and everything nice” – but I do think some products take it a little far. I usually start with pumpkin spice in September and switch to Christmasy spices mid-November. 🙂

I recently needed to make some gluten free treats for a party. I found Simple Mills Pumpkin Muffin & bread mix at 2 local stores. Yummy! Made half with cream cheese frosting & half without . Also made chocolate ones. Other than that & pie, I don’t think I am as adventurous as you are, Beth Ann, with your fun foods. I love your curiosity about life!

I have not caved to any pumpkin spice marketing. Interesting to read about your experiences.

Thanks, Beth Ann, for being our food taster. I like some pumpkin spice items but not many.

I like pumpkin spice but personally, I get annoyed by all the products out there. I prefer my own pumpkin spice flavored sweet bread or pumpkin pie – the real deal.

I’m glad you tried them, but I’m not that brave, or maybe not that into pumpkin or spice!
