Keep calm and drink tea. I am taking my own advice today because I need to.
Moving is stressful. As much as I try to pretend it isn’t – it is. Thank goodness for a husband who handles all of the loan information and financial end of things because if I had that on my plate as well I would be way over the edge.
Things that should be simple end up getting complicated. Finding service providers and tradespeople to do specific jobs is sometimes a challenge. We rely on our realtor and the few locals we know for advice and that usually works out.
My biggest challenge has been my dryer. We ended up buying the same set that we got in Dothan for the house there because we liked them so much. Without going into a long drawn out Ohio story like my friend Katybeth from Odd Loves Company likes to point out that we native Ohioans spin I will just say that it has been an extreme challenge to get a working dryer.
The installation was done incorrectly which is hard to believe when it really requires only 4 wires being wired in the back of the machine. No heat. After numerous calls to Best Buy, Samsung and a local repair shop and visits it was determined that as well as the wires not being connected correctly the outlet was bad as well which had been working just fine before said second dryer was delivered. (Yes, this was the second brand new one we had delivered.)
Electrician tracked down and visit made. Outlet checked out fine even though the guy the day before said it wasn’t. Electrician leaves. Half an hour later electrician comes back and says he has one more thing to check which is a long shot but guess what? It was it. A faulty cord. But wait. There’s more. New electrician comes and replaces cord. Now it is a combo of a bad cord and a wonky receptacle. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t. So 4 electrician visits later we have a working dryer.
So as I canceled a first lunch date with a new friend, looked at laundry hanging illegally from hangers on my back porch and got a crick in my neck I decided that I needed to have a cup of tea. So I brewed a big pot in my favorite brewing pot of Summer Blend from Spice It to A Tea located in downtown Brevard (YES! A lovely shop with a lovely owner so you can bet there will be blog posts later.) and took my own good advice to “keep calm and drink tea”. After all, in the big scheme of things this is a very minor inconvenience. Very minor.
I can do this. You can, too. Got life stresses? Everyone does. Take a deep breath, brew a pot of tea and just take a minute to enjoy the calm. It works for me and I bet it can work for you as well.

Leave a commentOh, my. That whole situation sounds like a comedy of errors (which is NO comedy at all.) You just can’t make that stuff up, can you? Glad you were able to finally get a working dryer AND remain calm through the ordeal!
It was a comedy of errors indeed. A simple thing like a dryer should work, right? But now I can dry like everyone else! Thank goodness.
Laundry hanging illegally? You moved into one of those ghastly neighborhoods that have rules about things like that? Oh dear. Condolences.
We did move into one of “those” communities. 🙂 It is worth the few rules that I am not thrilled with, trust me. I got enough of hanging clothes outside to dry in Australia.
Yesterday was definitely a drink tea afternoon- feeling was so stressed. Made 2 cups, each loaded with honey, and had my daughter join me- It certainly did calm me…changed my whole mood.
Yay for tea! It does calm me every single time, especially if I sit down and take the time to enjoy it! Thanks for taking the time to stop by and comment. Pinkies up!
We have encountered so many issues like this here in Spain, we have now come to expect it. Nothing ever works the first try, no one ever shows up when they say they will and there is so much paperwork! Yes, moving is stressful and I´m amazed I didn´t have a nervous breakdown the first 6 months here. Maybe it was the tea that got me through. (and I handle the finances as well!!)
BTW, after having a dryer for over 40 years, I do not have one here. The clothes dry so fast outside it isn´t a problem. I´m glad yours is working for you now.
It is always a challenge and doing an international move adds another dimension, doesn’t it? I know that it is to be expected and I honestly handled it pretty well but it was just a bit frustrating to have a band new appliance that did not work.
This is good advice! We love the tea you gave us and will remember to enjoy a pot when we get frazzled. I’m so glad your dryer works now!
Glad you like the tea. I am in love with that shop already. Keep calm and drink tea!
I am so glad you got the dryer problem resolved. But what a fiasco. I hope you did not have to pay for all of those electrician visits. You know me. I would have been hanging my laundry outdoors, although I see you can’t do that. Hmmmm. What’s with that?
Tea, huh? That’s all I need.
Best Buy is going to cover all of the costs for the repairs and adjustments because it stemmed from their installation. I was on the phone a lot with them and fortunately the Geek Squad rep that I spoke with understood what they had to do to make it right with us. I have yet to get the bill but the first visit was $160 for the repairman who fixed the wires so it will add up quickly. It’s all good and tea helped a lot.
Clothes hung illegally? Must be an “association” thing right? Boy, do I loathe the “do as we do, or else” mentality. Where there is no room for individualism. But, I’m glad for you that everything “came out in the wash” so to speak.
I was waiting to see who would pick up on that. We do live in one of “those” communities but honestly I can abide by the rules here because it is so wonderful. They are not overly so, in my opinion, and it is definitely not one of those cookie cutter places where everything is the same. There is a lot of individuality in both people and architectural styles which makes it interesting. I love it here so far and now that I can hear my dryer going I love it even more!
Our washer quit after only 9 years. I guess they don’t make them like they used to. Anyway, husband went into appliance store and ordered another one, then went down to Alabama to work on the lake house. 7 mos later I still had no washer, husband still in Alabama. Long story. But I now sympathize more with people stuck using laundromats. Thankfully I now have a washer and a dryer (we had to buy a set) and gave our ‘old’ dryer to a young nephew with 3 kids who had been drying clothes by hanging them all over the house for months, never telling anyone their dryer quit. It all works out in the end.
Wow. That is a story. I don’t think they make things like they used to back in the “old days’. Don’t we sound ancient? But it is true! I am happy that yours found a great home!!! Blessings all around.
Cool tea cup! Glad to hear your dryer problems are over!
It’s working overtime today!
I absolutely love tea of all kinds and love doing tea parties with my daughters. 🙂 We’ve moved to 9 homes so I can totally understand the stresses you are going through. Take a big deep breathe, it will get better and things will fall into place. If I can help in any way let me know. 🙂 Have a great day!
Blessings,
Jill
Thanks so much, Jill! It’s all good! I have moved a lot in my life as well and usually don’t get too stressed out about anything but this was getting a little bit ridiculous. I think the tea helped!
Too bad your washer did not work. After such a long trip to Ohio and all that you did while there you really did not need a washer that did not work. You needed some good rest. Just drink that tea and hope the washer lasts a long time.
I’m glad you finally got things fixed so you can dry your laundry legally! LOL I’d hate to have to read your blog posts from jail.
Oh boy how frustrating! I’m glad it’s finally working for you. Enjoy your tea!
It was good enough for my grandparents – to sit a few moments each day – and just pause, breathe and enjoy a proper pot of tea. I swear it is the secret to life. 🙂
Isn’t that the truth. Life is full of stressors…this week has been a doozy. but just make a cup of tea, take a deep breath, and relax. thanks for this friend.
I am not saying it fixes everything but it certainly helps me to calm down and center myself a bit.
You are always in my heart, Mary.
I love the spoon and agree. Sometimes you just need to sip some tea and destress.
I seem to need to do this more and more these days…..
Just took your advice. Looked at all the things, well mostly clothes, still to be packed for my move and decided to make a cup of tea.
Good for you! Sometimes you just have to do it. Take a break. Drink some tea. It will help. Good luck with the move.
