Moving Forward on Monday

48 Comments/ 4532/ 2

It’s move week and I am excited.  Posts are scheduled out but I have a habit of changing things up as things happen so who knows what you will read this week.  What I do know is I needed to start the week off with some randomness to keep my fabulous readers up to date.

1. For the first time in about 12 years we will have a landline and not just our cell phones. It is very odd to me to think about this. It is out of necessity.  We have absolutely no AT& T coverage in our new house. We have purchased a micro cell which will boost the signal but I am still doubtful it will work.  We obviously will need to look into other cell service providers but for a while it is possible that I will not be able to receive texts and calls while in our house.  That is going to be very difficult for me.  I can’t keep you all up to date with minute by minute accounts on Facebook of what I am doing via my phone.  How will I survive?

2. Buying a house in 2015 requires a lot of paperwork.  Chris, bless his heart, is the one who did all of the uploading of documents for our loan for our new place.  He counted 48 documents that had to be scanned and uploaded to the website for the loan company. The good thing is you can do it all electronically and there were very few items we had to really physically sign .

3. A bad haircut, or rather a haircut that did not turn out as you expected, sets the tone for the whole week and not in a good way.  Didn’t I just write a post about Reflections?  I needed a cut and color and found a salon to visit.  Loved the girl who did my hair.  She showed me pictures.  I was ready for a change so I chose one picture.  When she turned me around I have to admit I was shocked.  It was nothing like the picture and nothing like I wanted.  Sigh.  My lesson I am trying to take away is that there are bigger things in the world to worry about than a too short haircut and I just need to get over it.  I am trying.  But it is proving to be difficult.  I hate my hair now. Pray for fast growing hair.  Any tips on a food to eat that promotes hair growth?

4. I always get banged up when we move.  It’s a fact of life.  I already have an amazing bruise on my arm where I pinched the skin between a couple of oversized things I was trying to carry in from the car in preparation for the move.  It is gross and looks like someone punched me hard.  They didn’t .  I am just a klutz.

5. Thursday, August 20th will be an amazing day.  We will go from being almost homeless to having a home again and I guarantee this one is going to be a really great home.  I might be a little bit too excited about my front and back porches and my coffee and tea center we are going to have in the kitchen.  We close on Thursday, get some things we bought locally on Friday and have all the utilities ready to go and then get our shipment of household goods on Saturday.  Of course because we are going to be in a house in the mountains the delivery is not going to be as easy as the loading.  Unloading will be done at the entrance to the development onto a smaller truck which will ferry our goods to our home in multiple loads.  It is going to be interesting. But I am confident it will all work out great.

6. Life is best lived in the moment. I am in the “embrace the moment mode” right now and have had several conversations lately about living with no regrets and looking for every opportunity to be present in the moment.  One of my words for the year is “BE” and I am doing fairly well at embracing that word this year.  With a move I hope to “BE” present in the new place, embracing all it can offer.  I am looking forward to being a little closer to my mom and other family members.  I want to be able to spend more time with them whenever I can.  I am also looking forward to being able to be closer to many of my friends that live in North Carolina.  I am going to live my ordinary life in extraordinary ways.

So what about you?  Any random things you want to share with me today?  Go ahead and comment because it’s all for Comments for a Cause.

Oh, what an exciting week for you! Here’s a thought: we’ve found (in Virginia anyway) the phone service with the BEST coverage is Verizon. Not sure if that would apply in your area. I hope you find something soon: I can’t imagine being without cell service! 2) I can SO identify with the not-the-style-I-wanted haircut. I’ve been going to the same person for over 15 years, and it’s still a crapshoot!
And I cannot WAIT to see pictures of your new home.

Thanks Dianna! I am just going minute by minute right now, you know? Thanks for the phone tip—-our realtor has Verizon and it seemed pretty good . He was telling us all the spotty places in the development but it was still much better than our coverage which was zero at the house. Once we were out of the development it was better but still —can’t be having that nonsense, of no cell phone! Crazy talk! The hair thing–ugh. I just am sick about it but know that it will grow out in about a year…..

Thanks, Cristen! That was a really sweet comment and it was so nice of you to stop by. I think the shock was evident on my face when she turned me around. I have basically restyled it so it is nothing like how she had it originally and I can live with it . But good golly. I was surprised. I am so anxious to move—it seems like it has been forever since we got the offer on our house in Iowa in early May till now!

I have only moved once in my life, from my parents home and to my husbands farm (where he has lived all his life). As he is nearing retirement from farming, we have looked at homes in town but have decided to do a little remodel and addition to the farm house and stay put, at least for another 10 years. I can’t begin to fathom what moving is like, I am sure it is exciting and overwhelming. I wish you much happiness. As for your hair, I feel for you. I have cried many a tear over botched hairstyles and colors. It will also be interesting to hear how the landline thing works out, especially with all the “election” stuff. Happy moving!

Thanks Dianna! You are reading my mind about the landline and upcoming elections….exactly my fear!!!! We escaped so much of that in Iowa because we did not have a landline! I think so many ladies can identify with the hair thing. I try to say I am not vain but when it comes down to it my hair is the one thing that I just want to look good. It will all be good but just when I wanted to not have to worry about how my hair looked I am pulled back into thinking about it! 🙂

Enjoy the move in. It is always more fun than moving out in my opinion. The hair will grow out and by next week you will wonder why you were so upset. (Been there – many times) Finding a good hairdresser in a new place is one of the big challenges. Have a cup of tea on the porch for me <3

Hat. Great looking hat. Slap it on your head and don’t take it off. There is absolutely nothing worse than a bad haircut or one you don’t like. Nothing. Oh, of-course, there is death, sickness and famine, I suppose, but really do those even count when we are talking about our hair. I guess the good news is it will grow….Maybe buy a couple hats. But please no hats with smiley faces :-D. Ok, Ok, maybe one. If it make you happy.
Good luck! Sounds like a full week ahead!

On the haircut story…A number of years back, I went to a new hairdresser. He asked what I wanted and I selected a design from a book. He then propped the book next to him as he cut my hair. Then, he cut his finger. I was afraid to look in the mirror. The haircut turned out OK. But I never returned. I had no confidence in this person.

I am sorry you got a bad cut. Yes, your hair will grow out. In the meantime, wear a hat? Of enter hibernation.

No cell service is a helpless feeling. We have that problem every time we travel to southwestern Minnesota, or anywhere outside of T-Mobile’s coverage area, which is a lot of places.

So happy to know you are finally moving into your lake home.

The haircut story is typical. I always come out the way the hair stylist wants me to come out. 🙂 This time I really was flabbergasted. I should never have let her cut it but I did. Lesson learned. When I get to NC I will find another one and train her. 🙂

You DO have an exciting week on the way! Happy Moving Day! Hope everything goes well and also hope the hair grows fast (I get unhappy over hair too even though I tell myself it doesn’t really matter). Hate to burst your bubble on using Verizon as your cell service. We have it and we still get horrible service in our house and we don’t live in the mountains of NC, but in the rolling hills of western PA. We cannot go without a landline.

It will be interesting to see how the cell service shakes out. Our realtor has Verizon and he was making calls from the house so that gives me hope. It is definitely going to be a change from where we were living in a lot of ways but I think I can adapt. 🙂

So I’m a licensed hairstylist. They should know to tell you that it won’t look the same on you as in the pic. Different faces and skin tones etc. I was thinking what about getting some hair clip-ins and having some fun. You can cut them to the length you want them. You can colour them. Or if you want find a fun hat. A peanut at maybe ha! Anyway I know what it’s like to get a haircut I hate. I haven’t been to a salon in about 3 years because the last time I went the person was absolutely miserable and as a result hacked my hair. I wanted the ends trimmed. She put in really short layers. I never asked for layers. It took oh about two years to grow out. Ever since I cut my own hair, then I have no one to blame but me. Ha! All the best with your move. I love your porch too! Oh and you know I’m dying to see your haircut! I could maybe give you some ideas.

Oh I know it never looks the same but this was TOTALLY different. The crazy thing was that she was all concerned about “fixing” the little ducktail on my neck WHICH NEVER SHOWS BECAUSE I DON”T WANT MY HAIR THAT SHORT! Well, you guessed it. It shows and it is still a ducktail because that is just the way my hair grows. Haha. It’s all good. I am going to be the same as you—-it is going to take years to get it grown back out again. She somehow got the idea I wanted it short (which I did not say) and I think she just got to cutting and talking and cutting and talking…..I basically totally redid how she had it styled since she had it parted on the opposite side of how I do it usually and am working to train it to go the way I want. It is growing on me but it is not the look I wanted or thought I would have. Enough ranting. I am moving on. Thanks for your offers of help. I may send you a pic…..

Oh boy. Did you get your money back? I’m glad she was at least nice. The one I had, was so bitter. I got stories of how she was sick, and was under paid, and how she was going through a divorce and how she didn’t want to be there. That came out in my haircut. I may be a bit hard on her but we’re trained not to do that. Sorry she cut it so short on you but you are really stylin with the hat. Have fun with some hats! I so want a pic!

You know what? I didn’t go back and complain because I just didn’t need the drama, you know? I feel sure she thought she did what I wanted even though it wasn’t. I don’t have time to deal with drama right now so I am moving on. Literally! 🙂 It will grow. I may send you a pic later…..maybe.

Know exactly where you’re coming from! It was the same for us when we moved out here. Paperwork. It’s the first time we bought a house so we read (gasp) all the documentation. Everyone was impatient with us. Then we moved in and our phones didn’t work. So we had to switch to verizon luckily we had a couple of 1937 era blackberries, so we switched service to those… That is the story of why we have ancient outdated crackberries… I hear they are popular in China, I’d google it but it’s not worth the effort, at least not on my phone.

That is so funny . Tomorrow we will see if the micro cell booster actually will work. We got landlines and phones that we supposedly can forward our cell phones to but I am not convinced. We will see if they actually work. I am going to just be bereft if I can’t text and Facebook from my phone!
