Comments for a Cause and thankfulness seem to go hand in hand around It’s Just Life. After just celebrating Thanksgiving last week I guess I am feeling especially grateful.
I am grateful to have family and friends who love and support me.
I am grateful for all of the wonderful people that have come into my life over the years.
I am grateful for being able to live here in this time.
I am grateful God made me exactly like He made me.
I am grateful that I started doing Comments for a Cause in April 2011 and have been able to highlight so many causes in the years that I have been sharing them with you.
Today I am grateful for the American Diabetes Association, our Comments for a Cause for November.
Their mission is simple: To prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
This month thanks to my many readers who spent their valuable time leaving comments on posts Chris and I are happy to report that we will be donating $134.50 to help support the American Diabetes Association. There are not many families who have not been affected by this growing disease and it makes my heart happy to be able to make a small donation to this worthy organization.
The past two weeks my world was rocked. If you were following along lately you know that there was a huge wildfire that was human started (campfire) in Pickens County in South Carolina. I wrote a little bit about my fears in this post.
It scared me. A lot more than I would care to admit. While we did not have to evacuate we did take precautions and had a plan if it came to that. The fire came under 3 miles away from our development and that was just way too close for comfort.
I learned a lot about wildfires. As I write this on Wednesday night we have had two days of pretty nice rain which has definitely helped the situation. The last time I checked the fire known as Pinnacle Mountain Fire in Pickens County is 67% contained after burning over 10,000 acres. The firefighters have not been able to access the area for two days but the rain is doing its job and the fire is apparently no longer spreading at the rate that it had been.

This would not be possible without the hardworking firefighters. We are blessed to have our very own fire department in Connestee Falls and they have been a base station for this SC fire. They have provided support and valuable information along with personnel . They have been overrun with donations of water, food, eye drops, lip balm and other items during this recent wildfire which is so heartening to know that people support and care.
The Connestee Falls Fire Rescue group is supported by an Auxiliary whose goal is:
To Support Financially the Efforts of Those Who Provide Fire Protection Services to the Connestee Falls, Dunn’s Rock, East Fork, See Off, Sequoyah Woods, Sherwood Forest,
Slick Rock, and Walnut Hollow Communities.MAJOR OBJECTIVE:
To provide financial assistance to Connestee Fire Rescue Inc.
WE ALSO STRIVE TO:
(1) Cultivate a close relationship between our members of the Auxiliary and Connestee Fire Rescue Inc.
(2) And extend support to members of Connestee Fire Rescue, Inc. and their families during times of crisis and distress.
It seems only right to highlight the Auxiliary and have them be our Comments for a Cause recipient for December as a sign of my gratefulness to them for protecting our community not only during the wildfire but all of the time. For each comment made on my blog on ANY post during December we will donate 50 cents to the Auxiliary.
As more wildfires explode in Tennessee and North and South Carolina I am so grateful that there are men and women who are willing to dedicate themselves to this occupation. Please take the time sometime this month to thank a firefighter . I know I will.

Ah, thanks. Yes—the fear of a fire was not real to me until the past two weeks. I have always supported our first responders but it is much more personal to me now. Thank you for stopping by.
Truly wonderful cause, Beth Anne! I did not realize that the wildfire had come so close to your development. Somehow I must have missed your previous post about it, but I will use your link to read it.
We just take for granted our first responders: police, fire, rescue, but they really are heroes.
They really are heroes and I am becoming so much more aware of that fact. Thanks for stopping by!
Excellent choice – as always. Love you and your heart for others.
Thanks so much Virginia! Love you back!
Oh, I’m so glad you are doing this! I just wrote a check to them last night and wrote “thank you, thank you, thank you” all over the check! 🙂
I know—it is something that became very real for us and we are blessed to have had such great people working to defend our homes. Thank YOU for what you are doing to support them as well.
It is one of those jobs (careers) that I would never have pursued, because it takes a special person to be a firefighter! Best wishes for a successful month of comments Beth Ann.
It definitely does take someone special, doesn’t it? Such dedication and risk and sacrifice is involved and it is not for the faint of heart. So glad there are people that are willing to step up to do it.
Wonderful cause, last month. Extremely happy to hear you’re safe now. Great work, Beth!
Thanks so much for stopping by! We are so grateful this month for the firefighters!
Hope your month of comments is huge. Our fire fighters are true heroes. Years ago it was the paramedics from the Mason City Fire Department that came to my rescue when i fell and broke my femur.
Ozzie, Great to hear from you! I have never really given the fire fighters and paramedics enough credit because I have not really needed their services. IT became real and now I am VERY appreciative. Thanks for stopping by!
What an amazing thing to do!!! Love this idea.
We are so blessed to have so many brave firefighters in this area. Thank God for that rain yesterday.
We are so very thankful for the rain. It has helped the firefighters a lot. Now they have to worry about unstable terrain so they have not gone in to actually do much since Monday but the rains have helped do what we needed it to do. Thanks for stopping by!
I’m thankful that the rain moved south!
YES! It was an answer to prayer without a doubt.
This is the perfect cause for this month.
I am thankful for those firefighters and for the rain that is helping to contain the wildfires.
We are so grateful!
Thank God for the rain and for the brave fire fighters. The fires are very scary. Sad for those who lost their homes and businesses. Grateful that you are ok!
Thanks, Jeni. We are so grateful . Keeping the Tennessee folks in our prayers now.
What a wonderful affirmation of both your safety and the firefighters that helped keep you and the wildlife safe. I always find it helpful to remember that when bad times hit–good, helpful, kind, knowledgeable, hardworking people show up to help out. You are one of those people.
Glad you and Chris are safe and the smoke is clearing!
Thanks, Katybeth. We feel so blessed to be surrounded by so many wonderful professionals who keep us safe. It became very real to us in a very short time how much we depend upon them.
Two great causes. I just finished a training to be a Diabetes educator and am looking forward to teaching my first session in the new year.
My daughter is a paramedic, so I know first hand the brave mission they face. However, the firefighters are truly amazing people especially as they battle these large natural fires.
Been keeping you and them in my prayers.
What a great inspiration you are! That is such a great thing and you are going to be able to help so many people! Congrats! And yes—paramedics and all first responders have a great gift that often goes unrecognized. Thanks to your daughter !
Thank God your home was spared and many others. I know you don’t take family for granted and neither do I.
This is a great cause this month and donations I know are always appreciated to police and fire departments. We will be doing one ourselves. Thanks for the reminder.
Thanks Denise. I am so much more aware of our first responders and so very grateful for each one. It really became real to me and now I have a different view of what these folks do and their sacrifices.
Another worthy cause as per usual. So glad y’all escaped fire damage. Always look forward to a new month and what comments for a cause will be featured! 🙂
Thanks so much, Josh. It is my pleasure to share these causes with you guys. This one is new and dear. The fire is now officially 100% contained so we are rejoicing.
