We Gather Apart

12 Comments/ 96/ 0

The theme of 2020 is definitely a theme of not gathering together. It is heartbreaking, isn’t it?

This year instead of going to a beach someplace and renting a house to share with our sons and their wives for Thanksgiving we are staying home. Erin and Aaron are staying home. Micah and Wendy are staying home. It is what we all need to do this year.

Am I happy about it? OF COURSE NOT! I want to see my family just like everyone else but traveling right now is just not something I am willing to do. Everyone has to decide what is right for them and while I question the safety of some of the choices being made for holiday travel I have to hope that people have weighed all the options and are doing what they believe is correct.

But I am still going to be surrounded by my family. I will have them all with me at the table as you can see. Kind of hard to see but look closely at these pictures and you will understand.

Sure they won’t be there in person but at least I have pictures of everyone in the family that will be watching us while we eat our Thanksgiving feast for 2. Plus we will also have a Zoom session to celebrate later on in the day. Seeing people on video chats really does help with the loneliness.

2020 will be a year to remember and I am trying to continue to foster my attitude of thankfulness. Come back tomorrow to share our favorite Thanksgiving blessing of 2020.

Aw, what a sweet idea. Yes, 2020 has been and continues to be a difficult one. We can only pray that 2021 will be a better year.

A great idea! It will make the meal all that more special. Maybe folks can’t be together, but we can all be thankful. xo

Nice idea! Our family will be apart for the holiday as well since our oldest and youngest with spouses and two of our grandchildren live in other states where travel is restricted (it is in our state too). But our middle daughter and our oldest grandchild only live 1/2 mile away from us, so the four of us will gather together for turkey and all the trimmings. Then we will have a video conferencing time with everyone else too. It’s certainly better than not seeing them at all, so we will count it as a blessing. Happy Thanksgiving, Beth Ann.

What a great idea, to stage photos of your family around your table. Leave it to you to think of something creative. I hope it helps.

Thank you for the beautiful Thanksgiving card!

Hope you have as happy and health holiday as possible! We’ve been saying hello to family, doing meal drop off, but wanting us all to be as safe as possible. Our hospital staff are strained in MN.

Love you and thinking of you.

Our family is having Thanksgiving dinner but Chuck and I did not feel it is a safe ideal. It was hard but I had to tell them no. We are doing Thanksgiving at home just the two of us. As you said we all have to do what we think is right. I love the pictures ideal and I know you will enjoy your Thanksgiving.

First Thanksgiving Day I’ve ever gone online. All day, except dinner, I was online for family e-mail.
