June 1st and Comments for a Cause is what it is all about here on It’s Just Life. Welcome to our way of giving back a little at a time. This past month I was thrilled to highlight a new to me cause —Railway Children fund. I had not heard of this charity until we watched the film “Lion” . It was not easy to watch this movie but it tells an important story. You can read more about this Comments for a Cause by clicking here to read my original post.
Children always have my heart and this month I could not stop thinking about these “railway children” and what they must go through . I am thrilled to announce that Chris and I are making a donation of $128.00 to help with the efforts of this organization to provide outreach to these children on the platforms. A huge thank you to all who have commented so faithfully this past month to help our efforts in promoting good things in our world.
June means vacation time for many and I know that our summer is going to zoom by us. With a wedding in August I am determined to make the most of each and every day. That includes making the most of our family time in Lakeside, Ohio. I grew up going to East Ohio Annual Conference (United Methodist) for a week every year located on Lake Erie in Lakeside, Ohio. The tradition continued after Chris and I got married. The week at Lakeside is time with family and reconnecting with friends. It is my happy place .
With all the being said it seems only fitting that I choose to designate June’s Comments for a Cause to be The Lakeside Fund. There is always something going on at Lakeside during the summer and donations made to the general fund allow for all kinds of wonderful things to continue to happen. Currently a new pool and wellness center are the center of fundraising efforts. But it does not stop there. Other areas that need attention include Hoover Auditorium, grounds care, the symphony, Splash Park, along with programming and beautification of Ohio’s Most Beautiful Mile.
So this month please help me support a place that I love and that I hold near to my heart. I am not alone in my love of Lakeside and can not wait to visit again in a couple of weeks. For every comment made on ANY BLOG post you read during the month of June Chris and I will donate 50 cents to The Lakeside Fund. We cap our donation at $500 a month so let’s see if we can set a record month for comments.

🙂 Thank you , Virginia! I am anxious this year because Micah and Wendy and puppy Penny are coming for a day to meet the family! 🙂
I am so glad we could help the railway children. It is great you have chosen your dear Lakeside for this month. You feel about Lakeside, like I feel about Medicine Hat, Alberta. It’s all about family.
Yes. Family. That is it exactly. !
Another fun adventure!
Yes!!!! As always!
Enjoy your June and especially your week at Lakeside! We explored over that way a couple of years ago and I was so surprised (don’t know why I was surprised) at how beautiful it was there. I guess I’ve always assumed only Lake Michigan and Lake Superior are beautiful. Silly me.
I think we get used to what we know and don’t think past it sometimes—I totally agree that all the Great Lakes are GREAT!
Yay- well I will be commenting all the time this month. Beautiful here this morning on the Bay side-blue sky, blue water, sunny. I drove thru Lakeside yesterday and the pool complex is looking great. There has been talk of a pool for 75 years I’d say- and thus is the year! And for Dawn wh commented about some of the other Great Lakes- I felt the same way! I have always visited the western Lake Erie area and when went to the eastern side – I was amazed that this was my beautiful lake too! (Can you count this as 2 comments?
I will let this count for 2 comments because it is lovable you! I bet is is a gorgeous day there—I will be there on the 11th! We need to schedule a meet up!
Thank you for supporting these causes. you have such a giving heart.

Okay, comments for the Lakeside Fund! Perfect! That is a gorgeous picture with the sailboat and setting sun! Love all the happy flower faces, too!
It is a lovely place. You would agree if you visited that it was your happy place as well. Can’t wait to get there in a little over a week.
Oh, how special it will be this year with Wendy being there!
I hope it will be one of the best years yet! We are really looking forward to it.

Can’t wait to see you as well! Thanks for all that you do for Lakeside!
Lakeside is my family’s happy place as well! We go every July, and cram 6-7 families in my aunt’s house, & we have the time of our lives! My kids love it as much as I did as a kid.
Michelle— I can so envision this in my mind and can imagine all the memories you are making! Thanks for stopping by and sharing!!!
Lakeside is such a special place! It is like walking back in time to a place where neighbors dropped by when you were out on your porch. Where kids could safely play throughout the neighborhood. Where bikes are the preferred mode of transportation. Where the big adventure for the day was a swim in the lake, an ice cream and challenging grandma to a game of shuffleboard (and surprisingly she schooled you). The whole world could be different if we carried these shared values into the way we all lived in community! Enjoy your time up at the lake this summer!
Angie, Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment. You describe Lakeside perfectly. I love how your memories are so similar to so many others who have shared with me. We all love the things that Lakeside offers but perhaps most of all we love the “feeling” of Lakeside.
Love Lakeside!!
Dawn, thanks so much for taking the time to stop by and leave a comment. There are so many reasons to love Lakeside, aren’t there?

I discovered Lakeside through my daughter-in-law and son 2 years ago. It is such a great and safe place for the grandkids! They love riding their bikes and scooters down the hills, classes at the Rhein Center, putt-putt and are looking forward to that swimming poot.
You are talking about all of the things that I love as well! Thank you for stopping by!!! I love all the Lakeside love!
Our family has been at Lakeside nearly every Summer since 1978 traveling from Philadelphia at the beginning. Now it’s Richmond, VA, Austin, TX and suburban Washington. The Lakeside experience is the closest we can offer our grandchildren to what life was like for us growing up in rural Minnesota in the 1940s & 50s. They love it as much as we do and both families plan their Summers around the 3 weeks we stay. We are grateful Lakeside continues to thrive.
I am so thrilled to hear all of the stories of how folks love Lakeside. It truly is a little bit of a step back in time, isn’t it? I feel like there is safety there just like when I was a little girl growing up going there. We go during conference week so our experience is a little different than during the season but still—it is an amazing place that we come back to time and time again. Thanks for taking the time to stop by and leave a comment. Please encourage other Lakeside lovers to do so as well.
