Random Ramblings

8 Comments/ 70/ 0

Every once in awhile I like to do a “random” post with a lot of updates and random things. Today is your lucky day because it is Random Day.

Shout out to a bunch of great North Carolina blogs who are featured on the Top 50 North Carolina Blogs on Feedspot. I found out about this list and guess what? Mine got added so I am in the company of some other really great blogs. Feel free to check some of them out and thanks to Feedspot for including It’s Just Life.

In other good news Aaron and Erin moved back to Raleigh last week so we are now 4 1/2 hours away from them so that makes this mama happy. It also makes it easier for them to get ready for the upcoming nuptials which are LESS THAN 3 MONTHS AWAY! In other wedding related news I now have all of the necessary items for the wedding including dress, shoes, jewelry and rehearsal attire. Whew. A trip to Raleigh is coming up next week to see the new place and maybe help put shelf lining in the cabinets. It is one of my gifts.

While attending church last week the children’s sermon was something that stuck with me. The main idea was this: Small things done with great love can lead to extraordinary things. This is kind of my motto and I loved hearing it in church. One of the things that they had done during the week when they had a camp for the kids was put collect change to give to our local charity Bread of Life. The example of the feeding of the 5000 was used and the goal was to collect 5000 coins. Guess what? They collected over 6000 and we were all urged to get a change jar and label it “Small Change for Big Things” and use that to donate to a charity like Bread of Life. Great idea, right?

Several of my readers have asked me about the status of my birthday gift – a kitten. A litter was born to Alf and Gingersnap in May and I had thought that I would take one from that litter in August. After thinking a bit more about it I decided it might be better to wait until after the wedding to get a kitten to add to the household so I am waiting for a litter from Harita and Alf. This litter promises to have a variety of colors of kittens so I will have a little bit more choice. I think it makes sense to wait so wait I will.

Alf and Gingersnap (My kitty will still have Alf as the daddy but Harita is the mama)

Our Fourth of July celebration was fabulous. From a pet parade and Fourth of July celebration in town to a wonderful patriotic concert at Brevard Music Center. This one is always my favorite because it includes the 1812 Overture complete with cannons. I have such great memories of my dad loving this piece so I always get a little misty eyed when I hear it.

So that is the random wrap up here on It’s Just Life. How about you? Anything random you want to share? Tell me about it in the comments section and Comment for a Cause for AAUW Scholarship Fund.

So happy for you that Aaron and Erin are much closer again and back in Raleigh. I’m sure they are happy to be back as well.
Can’t wait to see pictures of your new kitten and I agree, it’s probably a good idea to wait until after the wedding. There’s so much that comes with a wedding and it can get stressful…
    Have a great weekend!!! xoxo

Yes, we are so thrilled that they are back in the state. I am here for a few days completing my Mom duties (shelf lining, smashing cardboard boxes, making a couple of meals, etc) so I am loving their new place. It is close to where their old place was in Raleigh so it is all really familiar which is great!

So glad you had a good 4th. Chuck and I did too, spend lunch at a family reunion with lots of family we do not very often see and much good food. Then we went to see a cousin that I have not spend time with in years. Wonderful visit and she gave me some treasures that belong to one of my Great Aunts who was very special in my life. How great your son and his fiance have moved closer. I love the challenge of your church. Our church does challenges from time to time and we are a small church but by the Grace of God we collect all the money we need. Waiting to get your kitty I think is a good ideal. New babies need lots of our time. Have a good week.

Thanks, Karen. I don’t think it is a really big deal but it is fun to be on the list! And yes–that lesson about small things being done with great love leading to extraordinary things is so true. Thanks so much as always for taking the time to stop by and comment. It is so great to see you here.

Great randoms! And congrats on the blog listing and your loved ones moving closer. Love the small change thing! Our church has been supporting an orphanage in Honduras for many years and several of our congregants have gone on mission trips to it. Each Sunday during the children’s story, our kiddos place coins in a bucket for the Honduran children. Small change adds up in a big way. 🙂
