Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior

8 Comments/ 198/ 0

According to George Washington there is a right and wrong way to act. In this adorable little book. (thanks to the donator at AAUW for the blog post fodder) he lists 110 things that he believed leads to a life that is filled with civility and decent behavior. I loved some of his list and thought I would share a few with my readers today which I took from the book.

So what do you think? Was George spot on with some of these? I loved reading this book and hope that you got a kick out of some of his advice. Let me know what you think in the comments and don’t forget to Comment for a Cause for El Centro.

79th and 50th certainly ring true and more folks should adhere to those rules! GW was a wise man indeed.

Some members of Congress would do well to review these.

Definitely! #1 ranks high with me and of course, #12 too. No eye rolls – I needed that one when my kids were growing up! 😉

This is such a good list with so many of these fitting today. The list just needs to be modernized some and then circulated. I am so overcome by all the senseless shootings. Like turn in the wrong driveway and you get shot. Get in the wrong car and ring the wrong doorbell and you get shot. Go to school or the bank or church or…and get shot. I’m so so sick of this gun violence.

It is a good list and just as appropriate today. I laughed out loud in Reading the 55th. This was ground into us not only by our parents but also school.

I like GW’s rules, always have!

MPR, I do not understand why reasonable people attach all their emotional energy to blaming the weapons. Especially not on a day when, as part of a job, I just read the true story of a homicide-suicide who used a hatchet. There is a common factor. It is not guns. It is drugs. The commercial media don’t want you to know, because so often the drugs are prescription medications that work better for some people than they do for others. Check it out for yourself. Don’t rely on a major newspaper, but check the facts when these incidents happen.
