Sculpture Walk in Brevard, NC – Part 2

8 Comments/ 127/ 0

As promised I will complete our little walk about Brevard on the blog today. Check out yesterday’s post (click here) to see the first installment and information about our lovely Sculpture Walk in Brevard, North Carolina.

The Great Blue Heron resides outside of the Transylvania County Library . It was created by Chris Worley and is made from galvanized steel with a blue patina. A bench is situated nearby for a nice place to sit and view it.

You have to look up for the next one and it is one we have missed in all of our years here. Probably the one that is Chris’ favorite due to the subject.

Flight School features a revolving wind sculpture featuring trout. This was created by Lincoln Stone and is located on Broad Street just past the library.

Our county is covered with deer as you know from viewing many pictures of our yard over the years. They run freely in Connestee Falls with little threat so it seems pretty appropriate to have a deer sculpture. This one is sporting a mask for safety.

Richard Merrill and Chris Worley creating this sculpture. The body is a huge uncut river rock and the rest of the sculpture is forged steel.
The Fox is made of bronze and lives next to the parking lot by St. Philip’s Episcopal Church. Artist Christine Kosiba created this beauty.

Have you chosen a favorite yet?

Splash the Otter does not appear on the brochure but is located outside the Visitor Center on Main Street. Artist Christine Kosiba created this one.
Raccoons by Ann DerGera can be found on Main Street as well.
The Bobcat is all covered up with a mask and a stocking cap. He can be found in the Water Oaks Center. Sculptor Steve Fox left a message on his back for children who might climb up.
Chipmunks are plentiful in our area as well so this tribute to the chipmunk created by Christine Kosiba is in a planter box on Main Street for all to enjoy.
The Red Wolf by Richard Merrill and Chris Worley is very lifelike in appearance. The sculpture now stands close to the courthouse gazebo and was made of over 2.000 slivers of steel to represent the hair on the wolf. There is also a steel heart inside.
A group of Ravens can be found on Main Street close to the Times Arcade Alley. These bronze ravens were created by Christine Kosiba.

Our tour is almost complete but I have saved one of the best for last.

The Elk at the corner of the Courthouse lawn watches everyone come and go. This steel sculpture by Aaron Alderman welcomes all to Brevard.

There was one sculpture that we did not find on our trek – the Cougar- which I suspect may have been moved since the brochure was produced. There is also a modern sculpture close to St. Philip’s Episcopal Church that I did not include with the wildlife ones.

I am so happy that we have these works of art available for residents and visitors alike to enjoy. It adds just another element of beauty to our little town.

Thanks for walking around with me today. Tell me which one is your favorite in the comments and remember that each comment means a 50 cent donation to our Comments for a Cause – Copeland Oaks Life Care Fund.

These are amazing. Hard to pick a favorite but I think it’s between the Great Blue Heron and the Otter. Love watching both of these animals in nature and often have them as backyard visitors by our lake. 🙂

Impossible to pick a favorite but if I must I must. How about I settle for two favorites -the fox and the elk.
