One of the best things about being a steward of a Little Free Library is the connections I have made with other stewards. I joined a Facebook group for that purpose and it is a great way to share ideas, book giveaways and all kinds of information.
Last year one of the stewards posted that she wanted to send a traveling journal around so others could share a bit about their library and the area where they lived. Sign me up. I am all about that kind of stuff and if you remember a long time ago I had a traveling armadillo named Andy that was my travel companion for a short while due to a blogger endeavor. You can read about Andy here.
So Kathryn Zap started Travel – the little travel journal that will see the world and the story begins.
I loved the journal she chose for Travel’s adventures and by the time it reached me it was about halfway filled up with entries from libraries from Canada, Ohio, Texas, Minnesota and other great places. It was really fun to see what was included with each entry, to see the libraries themselves and to read what the stewards wrote about their love of reading and all things books.
Take a look at some of the fun entries.
Don’t you just love the originality of some of these libraries?
The entries are varied and entertaining and I especially loved this one from Texas in the beginning of the journal that included hand drawn illustrations. I am telling you – some of these stewards are amazing.
I had a quick turn around time to get my part done since I was going to be traveling. I wanted to get Travel on his way again to the next steward so I didn’t fret too much about my entry and just included some great pics of my library and some of our local attractions and things of interest.
I was excited to send Travel on his way and thank Kathryn for allowing me to be a small part of the project. It got me thinking that maybe I will do something similar one of these days.
Have you ever participated in a traveling item similar to this? My mom used to do Round Robin letters where a group of friends would keep a letter going to each friend to keep them apprised of what was going on in their lives. I think that is a pretty neat idea as well but with everyone being so busy these days and with the speed of email and text messaging it may not be as useful.
Don’t forget to leave me a comment for Comments for a Cause . This month for each comment on any post we will make a 50 cent donation to Friends of Hunting Island. You can read more about that by clicking here.

Leave a commentThis is such a great idea. I love the entry that you made. Reminds me of scrap booking back in the day. There’s something special about handwriting and posting words and photos in a book like that
This is so fun! Reminds me of that journal for my grandnephew for his school project. It went all over the country and people really got into it! So much so that I worried that there was too much information for my little 2nd grader!
P.S. After it left my hands, I asked people to take photos of the pages so I could see what everyone wrote because after the last person got it, it needed to be sent directly back to the school. I wouldn’t have seen all the great entries without asking for those photos!
Wonderful idea! I like the round robin letter idea too.
What a fabulous idea, to get these stories, these personal accounts, to see these photos.
Thanks for including the Minnesota entries. That rocket LFL is perhaps the most creative I’ve seen.
I was part of Andy the armadillo exchange and that’s how I met you. I also did Flat Ruthie. I love this and your entry is perfect!
Such a great idea. It seems so interesting to find out where all the little freeibraries are and why people started them!
What a well traveled journal!
How cool is that?!? I’ve only done Flat Stanley for children and a couple of traveling geocaches with my oldest daughter.
How cool! You’ll have to add me to the LFL stewards group you’re apart of!
Sending you a link to join in a minute. It is a fun group!
I love that albino squirrel!
Isn’t he a cutie? He is actually a white squirrel which we have a ton of in our area. They are truly white and not albinos and it is our claim to fame locally!
I took pictures of my page. Do you want to see them?
Would love to see them!
